Anytime Goalscorer Tips 7th Jan
Nelson Oliveira – Norwich (v Southampton)
The Portuguese striker netted a hat-trick against Derby on Monday scoring the perfect treble. Oliveira hasn’t always been prolific, but it’s been a good season for the former Nottingham Forest man. He’s hit 11 goals in the Championship including 6 in his last 6. Norwich haven’t enjoyed life under Alex Neil recently, but their home form is decent enough and they’ve beaten Brentford, Derby and Villa at Carrow Road. They should give Southampton a decent contest and the Saints have been far from assured at the back recently. The side from the South Coast shipped four to Spurs before conceded twice to West Brom and three to Everton. They are not in the best run of form and have fitness issues. Virgil Van Dijk is back, but could be unsettled by the transfer speculation surrounding him. Norwich should take advantage and Oliveira is likely to start ahead of Cameron Jerome.
Peter Crouch – Stoke (v Wolverhampton)
The Potters beat Watford 2-0 in midweek and will look to progress into the fourth round against Championship outfit Wolves. Jonathon Walters is likely to remain on the sidelines, so the lofty striker might get the nod once more. Crouch is far from prolific, but has 2 in 2 and will be keen to continue his fine run. Stoke have hit two goals in three of their last four games at the Bet365 Stadium and will look to ease past Paul Lamberts side. The men from the Black Country have been inconsistent recently losing at QPR, but holding Sheffield Wednesday to a draw. They’ve kept just two clean sheets in eight games and are unlikely to keep Stoke out in the Potteries. Crouch’s height should cause problems for a Wolves defence which let in four against Fulham and two against Bristol City and QPR.
Matty Taylor – Bristol Rovers (v Northampton)
Matty Taylor is having another season to remember as he continues to impress for Bristol Rovers. The Gas have gone through the division with Taylor netting with regularity. He has 18 goals to his name this season and scored twice against AFC Wimbledon here on New Year’s Eve. His last 8 goals have all arrived at the Memorial Ground and he’ll be confident of netting against Northampton on Saturday afternoon. He’s scored 4 in 4 at home and as long as Rovers can bounce back from a heavy defeat to Charlton. He’s netted in all competitions this season including the much derided Check-A-Trade trophy. Northampton don’t conceded lots of goals, but they’ve lost three of the last five on the road and may find Taylor too hot to handle.
