Do Barcelona deserve their place in the Champions League quarter-finals?

Do Barcelona deserve their place in the Champions League quarter-finals?

Short answer: no, they cheated. The phrase ‘cheats never prosper’ once rung true within the realms of top-flight competitive football. Attacking players would formally laugh at the idea of rolling around on the floor instead of looking to claim a clear chance in front of goal, whilst managers and fans alike would hold a certain pride in their team standing for true and honourable morals.

Yet at the risk of sounding like an age-old grandfather continuously harking back to the ‘good old days’ where everything was just that little bit more honest and noble, the modern game seemingly no longer holds itself to such a righteous standard. Instead, players simply can’t wait to fall down at the slightest of touches nowadays, as more and more top-flight fixtures are being defined by these stark examples of outrageous cheating.

Such a notion was directly noticed when Barcelona faced PSG last time out…

…with Luis Suarez in particular facing much of the recent criticism…

Yet it seems few within the wider footballing community are willing to tackle this problem head on…

Although Suarez wasn’t the only one diving all over the pitch last night…

…his behaviour must surely be looked at retrospectively (even though it most definitely won’t!)…

Some people are simply sick of the modern game and the increasingly questionable direction in which it is heading…

…for this isn’t the first time Barcelona have been accused of high class cheating…

But as most people seemingly find themselves preoccupied with the undeniably incredible narrative of last night’s match…

…perhaps cheats really do prosper in the end…
