The final game of the Capital One Cup 1st round is a Yorkshire derby as Leeds travel south to Doncaster. Both sides gained a point on the opening day of the season and will be looking to benefit from a decent cup run.
Doncaster v Leeds Predictions:
Uwe Rosler indicated that he would ring the changes for this cup tie and the starting 11 from Saturday would be vastly different. He also said he felt confident his side could emulate Bournemouth this season, so his concentration very much remains on the league. There’s no doubt that Leeds will improve on their 15th place finish as they have a decent squad in place, have made a number of good signings and I believe a promising manager at the helm.
Doncaster have been in the news for their show of sportsmanship after they let Bury striker Leon Clarke score unchallenged. It was Harry Forrester who ‘accidentally’ chipped Christian Walton when returning the ball to the on loan Brighton keeper. Paul Dickov received plenty of positive press for the gesture and a point against a decent Bury side is an admirable start to the season.
There’s been no clear indication as to whether the Scot will shuffle his pack, but he doesn’t have as many players at his disposal therefore is likely to make fewer changes.
These two sides met in the League Cup in both 2011 & 2013 and were playing one another in the Championship as recently as the beginning of 2014 so they are certainly used to one another’s company. Recently, the away side seems to leave with the points whenever they meet. Five of the last six meetings have ended with the away side victorious, Leeds have been the visitors on four of those occasions.
Doncaster v Leeds Result Prediction:
With all the changes being made by Rosler, I think Leeds may struggle to break down Doncaster, who have a stubborn defence. They also possess a goal scoring threat in the shape of Andy Williams who signed over the summer and the aforementioned Harry Forrester, who has been trying to live up to his potential for a number of seasons now. I think the match may not be decided in 90 minutes, so a draw may the best option to take.
My first football tip for Doncaster v Leeds in the Capital One Cup is the match to end a draw after 90 minutes, the best odds are 13/5 at Bet365.

Both Teams to Score Betting Tip:
There seems to be goals in both of these sides. Leeds have plenty of young hungry players who have been produced by their academy and Neil Redfearn. Elsewhere, Mirco Antennucci came on and scored a cracker against Burnley and they also have Soulymane Doukara who only got a brief cameo at the end of the 90. They’re both handy in front of goal. Doncaster look decent enough going forward and if the away side decide to rest Sol Bamba, they could be in trouble defensively.
My second Doncaster v Leeds prediction is for both teams to score, the best odds are currently 4/5 at Betfred.
Anytime Goalscorer Betting Tip:
I’m going to plump for the aforementioned Soulymane Doukara to score during the 90 minutes. The 23 year old will find his chances limited in the league with the arrival of Chris Wood, but he should get the chance of a run out in the cup. The Senegalise striker scored 5 times last season and could get off the mark here.
The last of my football predictions for Leeds v Doncaster is Doukara to score anytime, the best odds are 11/4 at Paddy Power.
