Everton vs Liverpool predictions and betting tips for their Premier League fixture on Monday 19th December at 8pm with reasons for each tip, team news and head to head stats.
Venue: Goodison Park, Liverpool.
Kick-off time: 8pm, Monday 19th December 2016.
The Merseyside Derby is this Monday and both sides come into the fixture on the back of impressive wins. The Toffees turned around a 1-0 deficit to beat Arsenal 2-1 at Goodison Park on Tuesday, while Liverpool eased past Middlesbrough on Teesside to secure a 3-0 victory. Both sides will be looking to kick on from their wins and build some momentum over the busy festive period.
Both Merseyside teams have been vulnerable in defence recently, so if recent score lines are to go by, this should be an entertaining game. Everton have conceded in their last six matches, but have managed to score in four of them, while Liverpool, before their clean sheet against Middlesbrough, conceded two at home to West Ham and shipped four away at Bournemouth. Despite conceding goals, the Reds seem to make up for their defence vulnerabilities at the other end of the pitch, as Jurgen Klopp’s side have netted six goals in their last two away games. I definitely feel there will be goals in this one, last time these sides met at Goodison Park it ended 1-1, but with Liverpool looking to keep their title hopes alive, I feel there will be a few more goals which is why my first Everton vs Liverpool betting tip is for both teams to score and over 2.5 goals at Evens with Coral.
Before beating Arsenal, Everton had lost to the likes of Watford, Bournemouth and Southampton and if they don’t get a positive result from this Derby match following their determined win against The Gooners, it’ll be an increasing concerning for Ronald Koeman. He will be without Phil Jagielka at the back following his red card midweek and that suspension will add further woes to the Everton defence. I think Liverpool’s attack may be too hot to handle on Monday night, Klopp’s side have already scored an incredible 40 goals this season, averaging just under 2.5 goals a game. The concern for Liverpool like I mentioned is their defence, as they have shipped 20 goals in their 16 games. Everton have scored in every single one of their home games this season and are unbeaten at home, however, the Toffees have yet to face either of the top two at Goodison Park this season, and I have a feeling Liverpool may sneak a win in what will be a high scoring encounter between the sides. Everton couldn’t deal with Chelsea’s attacking prowess at Stamford Bridge as they were demolished 5-0 earlier in the season, but with the home advantage on Monday I think they’ll register on the scoresheet but with it not being enough to get a result so my second Everton vs Liverpool prediction is for Liverpool to win 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2 at odds of 5/1 with Sky Bet.
It is the battle of the Belgians on Monday night, with both Divock Origi and Romelu Lukaku expected to lead the lines for their team. Origi has netted five in five, while Lukaku sits on nine goals. Sky Bet are offering 13/2 for both players to score and I feel that is a decent price seeing as both clubs have been involved in a heavy amount of goals recently so that’s my final Everton vs Liverpool prediction for the Merseyside derby this week.
Ronald Koeman doesn’t have too many concerns for his Everton side. Phil Jagielka is suspended following his two yellow cards against Arsenal, so Funes Mori is expected to replace him. Muhamed Besic and Yannick Bolasie remain on the sidelines. For Liverpool, their injury list is quite concerning for Klopp. Phillipe Coutinho the most notable absentee, with the Brazilian out until the New Year. Daniel Sturridge, Emre Can, Joel Matip and Danny Ings are all expected to miss all out.
Everton have not won against their rivals in their last eight meetings. Liverpool have only managed to win twice, though. Klopp’s side demolished The Toffees in their last fixture at Anfield, with the game ending 4-0.The last four matches at Goodison Park have ended in draws.
Liverpool are favourites for the Merseyside clash, with the Reds being valued just under evens with most bookies. Everton are the underdogs and are at a decent value of 10/3. If you feel Koeman’s side can build on their victory of Arsenal, then that could prove to be excellent value. If you feel this fixture is heading towards the last four encounters between the sides at Goodison Park, the draw is valued at around 11/4. Adam Lallana has been in fine form of late and scored twice against Middlesbrough in his last match, and if you fancy a first goal scorer bet, the Englishman is valued at 15/2 with Sky Bet.
