The FA Cup Third Round takes centre stage in English football this weekend and all five selections for the Saturday accumulator cover games from the competition.
Blackpool have lost both of their latest League Two matches at Bloomfield Road and have scored just once in four previous matches. They now host a Barnsley team which has won five Championship contests since the beginning of December with late goals securing narrow victories at Nottingham Forest and Cardiff. The Tangerines have become an inconsistent team while capable of beating any team on their day as proved when beating Doncaster 4-2 on home soil during October, but the Tykes have improved significantly after a poor sequence of form during late autumn. An away victory for Barnsley forecasted.
Barnsley to beat Blackpool.
Bournemouth have conceded three goals on six separate occasions since late November including their latest game against Arsenal when they were three goals ahead during the second half. The Cherries now travel to the New Den to face a Millwall team unbeaten in four league One matches and scoring nine goals in those contests. Having won their latest three home games, Millwall could deny a Bournemouth team displaying much inconsistency in recent weeks, and a draw is forecasted.
Millwall to draw with Bournemouth.
There are signs that Norwich are emerging from a series of poor results in Championship football with four points earned from their latest two outings and with clean sheets defeats registered in both matches. The Canaries were helped by the dismissal of an opposition player when beating Derby 3-0 on Monday, and they will host a Southampton team aiming to end a sequence of three consecutive defeats with nine goals conceded. With the Saints facing the distraction of an EFL Semi-Final game on the following Wednesday, Norwich could record a home win against their Premier League rivals.
Norwich to beat Southampton.
Derby were unbeaten in ten Championship matches prior to losing 3-0 at Norwich on Monday, although the dismissal of midfielder Jacob Butterfield did not help. Yet the Rams have netted just one goal in three previous outings and travel to face a West Brom team displaying decent form at the Hawthorns with four victories secured in five attempts. The Baggies have beaten Burnley 4-0 with 3-1 winning scorelines secured against Watford, Swansea and Hull since mid-November, and they are predicted to beat Derby.
West Brom to beat Derby.
Both teams are currently more concerned about their Championship safety and are affected by a series of ongoing injuries. Wigan have claimed just one point from the beginning of December onwards with just four goals scored in that period while Nottingham Forest have suffered four successive defeats. However, Forest were drawing 1-1 at Newcastle before the dismissal of defender Matt Mills and conceded a very late winner via a 30-yard volley when beaten 1-0 by Barnsley on Monday. Forest may be a better team than recent results suggest and a seventh successive home defeat is looming for Wigan.
Notts Forest to beat Wigan.
Blackpool v Barnsley: Away Win
Millwall v Bournemouth: Draw
Norwich v Southampton: Home Win
West Brom v Derby: Home Win
Wigan v Notts Forest: Away Win
