Newcastle are looking to overhaul Brighton as Championship leaders but face a difficult looking tie at home to play-off hunting Leeds. This is a huge clash on Good Friday. Leeds make the trip north to St James Park to face Newcastle in a game that both sides must win. Newcastle slipped behind Brighton in the table at the weekend and could trail the Seagulls by 5 points by the time this match kicks off. (Brighton play at 5pm). The Toon Army slipped up against Sheffield Wednesday for the second time this season and despite Jonjo Shelvey’s heroics they couldn’t find a way back into the match.
They face another play-off hunting side in the shape of Leeds on Friday and it’ll be far from easy. Rafa Benitez’s side can be beaten here at SJP and have been far from exemplary on their own patch – unlike their previous stint in this division. They’ve lost five times this campaign including most recently to Fulham. They are looking to make it a hat-trick of victories on Tyneside after narrowly seeing off relegation threatened Wigan and Burton.
Leeds haven’t been in play-off form in recent weeks and need to bounce back from some disappointing results. Garry Monk’s side have been almost foot perfect at home this season but have struggled on their travels. They have the 3rd best home form in the league but only the 8th best away form and have won just once in five away matches. They are looking to avoid a third consecutive away loss here. Since beating Birmingham they’ve scored just once in three outings on the road losing to Brentford and Reading most recently.
They have plenty of quality though and can hurt teams. They also possess a huge weapon in the shape of Kiwi powerhouse Chris Wood who has been plundering the goals for fun this season. He should be fit enough for start here. A 3-0 home win over Preston should have provided some much needed confidence to the side.
Newcastle vs Leeds Predictions
I’m going to take a chance on Newcastle to win by a 1 goal margin here for my first Newcastle vs Leeds prediction. The price on the Magpies is skinny but they aren’t going to run away with this and have won each of their last two matches here by a single goal deficit. The best odds are 5/2 with bet365.

Newcastle continue to miss DeAndre Yedlin and Ciaran Clark through injury and neither will feature here. Jamie Sterry and Curtis Good are also sidelined. Aleksandar Mitrovic has said this week he’s hoping to break into the side and feature in Rafa’s plans.
Leeds will be without Liam Cooper who is suspended. There are few other injury worries for the visitors. Kemar Roofe was given a chance against Preston and netted one of the three goals. He could continue in the side.
