Today’s football tips come from the third and fourth tier of the English football pyramid and they include a 20/1 shot to win League Two.
League One Predictions:
Bury to be top promoted team – 3/1 with Paddy Power.
The Shakers are one of the smallest teams in the league but they are full of ambition and have deeper pockets than most teams of a similar stature, a progressive manager dedicated to passing football and great momentum following a brilliant late run last season which saw them sneak into the final automatic promotion place at the end of last season from League 2. Their signings have been ambitious to say the least and speak volumes about the club's intention to not just survive in the third tier. Leon Clarke and Tom Pope, from Wolves and Port Vale respectively, bring a wealth of experience and goals to the front line while Peter Clarke and Danny Pugh add leadership and class to the defence. Former England goalkeeper Chris Kirkland is also believed to be close to joining.
The other teams in the running, Burton, Shrewsbury and Southend, are all potentially decent sides and none will be cannon fodder in this division but it is Bury who have shown the greatest intent to push on during the Summer.
Rochdale to be top 6 on September 1st – 5/2 with Sky Bet.
Rochdale are another of the league's smaller sides with great potential to do well this season. Last season they secured a respectable eighth place finish and were in playoff contention until late into the season thanks to a free-scoring attack notching 72 goals, the most outside the top four. The opening fixtures look kind with three of the opening five at Spotland and a winnable away trip to chaotic Blackpool. Despite the loss of League 1's answer to Roy Keane, Stephen Dawson, the signings so far look sensible enough to suggest a play-off push for our football tip is again likely and a strong start is well on the cards.
League Two Predictions
Notts County to win League Two – 20/1 with Winner.
Relegated Notts County look a cracking outside shout for the League Two title at 20/1 with Winner. Their approach has been quite a risky one so far with a host of Dutch signings known to coach Ricardo Moniz but also some experienced lower league players who should be far too good for this level such as Jon Stead, Adam Campbell from Newcastle and goalkeeper Scott Loach, once a target for top Premier League clubs (well, Spurs). It looks like a mediocre division this season and Portsmouth have done very little to justify their short price meaning the market opens up lucratively on the other sides.
