Anytime Goalscorer Tips for NYE

Sam Winnall – Barnsley (v Birmingham)

Sam Winnall was the only player to oblige for us on Boxing Day as the former Scunthorpe man got into double figures for Barnsley. He netted the opener at Oakwell and continues his hot streak. He is a natural finisher and is helped by the deliveries of the excellent Connor Hourihane. The striker has netted three goals in his two games and will be keen for more in front of the home crowd. He is likely to be targeted by clubs higher up the standings during January and will put himself in the shop window with another goal on Saturday. The Tykes have been strong at home recently and have been scoring for fun. They face Birmingham, who have been defeated in Gianfranco Zola’s first two games in charge. Their away form is far from impressive and they are liable to concede on their travels. Winnall could be the man to inflict more misery on the Italian boss.

Jake Jervis – Plymouth (v Crawley)

Not an obvious pick, but Jervis has seven goals this season and six of them have arrived at Home Park. He has combined with Jordan Slew recently and the pair are performing well. In behind them Graham Carey is busily creating opportunities and openings and plenty of chances should fall their way. Jervis also takes penalties for the Pilgrims and his effort against Doncaster was hit with venom. Plymouth have returned to form following a mid-season wobble and will fancy their chances of putting a few past a travel sick Crawley. Dermot Drummy’s side don’t fare well on the road losing four of the last five and recently shipping five to Yeovil. They conceded three to Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road on Boxing Day and are likely to find the movement of Plymouth’s front five too hot to handle.

Charlie Wyke – Carlisle (v Notts County)

Wyke has had a standout season so far with 14 goals in League Two so far. Carlisle have scored goals from all over the field with Danny Grainger and Jason Kennedy chipping in with plenty too. The former Middlesbrough youth player has been the standout name though and will fancy his chances against a fragile Notts County defence. John Sheridan is under pressure at Meadow Lane and is struggling to get a tune out of his side. They are sinking down the table and were defeated 1-0 by Doncaster on Boxing Day. They’ve conceded twice in four of their last five games and Carlisle are one of the highest scorers at this level. Wyke has netted five times since the end of November and is likely to lead the line for the Cumbrians once again.
