Whilst the ever dreaded international break has never quite gone down as our most treasured aspect of the annual footballing schedule, many eyes will still be locked upon Gareth Southgate’s England as they go head-to-head with Germany in yet another widely watched friendly this week.
Jermain Defoe’s dream England re-call has nonetheless sparked a great deal of debate in the run up to this particular fixture however. Is the in-form Sunderland man really cut-out for international duty at the grand old age of 34-years-old, or could this be the one daring move England have been crying out for of late? We shall have to wait and see…
For some, Defoe’s recent re-call is simply too little too late…
England would've won euros if we took Defoe. 100%

…yet on the other hand, perhaps the former Tottenham striker will continue to defy the odds…
Jermain Defoe talking about his future England prospects. Doesn't feel like he's 34 so I'm sure age won't be a factor.

England have certainly been lacking someone of Defoe’s undeniable quality in recent outings…
Jermain Defoe sounds like the sort of person England have needed around for ages: hungry, desperate to play and to succeed. No fear.
— Ben Cobley (@bencobley) 20 March 2017
…but is this really the right move for the Three Lions with all things considered?
Defoe hasn't played for England for 4 years because he'd spent the best part of 10 showing everyone he wasn't that good.

Many believe the player is more than deserving of his recent recognition…
Just been told Jermain Defoe is back in England squad — recalled at the age of 34. Richly deserved, even if not exactly one for the future.

…and whilst Defoe’s age may indeed prove something of a problem somewhere down the line…
Always liked Defoe, but what does it say about the state of #England that a 34 year old playing for a bottom of the table side is an option?
— Canaries Caption It (@Saund65) 16 March 2017
…his presence among the current Three Lions set up can only be a good thing right in the here and now…
Give Defoe the nod to start up front for England.
Goals, Goals, Goals.

Especially after everything he has achieved in front of the Black Cats faithful this season…
The recall of 34-year-old Jermain Defoe to the England squad is a breath of fresh air. If you're good / score enough – you're young enough.
