Birmingham vs Newcastle Predictions

I think Newcastle will win in Birmingham this Saturday evening and progress to the next round of the FA Cup. Although Birmingham are flying in League One, two leagues is a huge gap in quality, and Newcastle should have too much for the Blues in this one. Newcastle have won eight of their last 10 in all competitions, including that 2-0 win over Arsenal last time out. Birmingham haven’t been beaten since the end of November, but I think that will change here against a strong Newcastle.

Jay Stansfield is having a stormer of a season for League One Birmingham. He has 17 goals to his name so far in all competitions, with 14 in the League and three in the Football League Trophy, in just three outings in that competition. I think Newcastle will have most of the ball in this one, but I do think Birmingham will have a chance or two, and Jay Stansfield will no doubt be involved in them. He’s fantastic odds for a shot on target.

We’ve gone for two players to be booked, one for each team. For Birmingham, we’ve gone for Alex Cochrane. The Australian, former Hearts full-back has been booked four times in the league in 24 matches. He doesn’t shy away from a challenge and will be in for a difficult game against a pacey, strong, skilful Newcastle front line. We’ve also backed Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes to be carded. The Toon midfielder has picked up six yellow cards in all competitions this season with three in the league and three in the Carabao Cup. He averages just under 1.5 fouls per game, and I expect him to make a number of fouls here. Both players are good odds for a booking in this one.
