Newcastle vs Tottenham bet builder tips and predictions for the opening match of the Premier League fixtures this weekend, kicking off at 12.30pm from St James’ Park.

Spurs are unbeaten in eighth of their last 10 fixtures in all competitions, and I’m backing them to win on the road as they travel to face Newcastle this weekend. Ange Postecoglu’s side are in pole position to finish fourth ahead of Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, as they lie level on points with a game in hand over the Villains. The last time Spurs played the Toon Army, they came out well on top, with a 4-1 win in North London. Newcastle are sitting in eighth place, below where many expected them to be at the stage of the season. I think Spurs will come out on top in this one.

• Cristian Romero to be booked

Cristian Romero always gets stuck in, and it will be no different here as he looks to silence Aleksander Isak up top for Newcastle. In Romero’s 26 Premier League appearances so far this season, he has made 19 fouls, which is well over 0.5 per game, and picked up five yellow cards in the process. He has been in over 200 direct duels so far this season, coming out on top in most of them, however he will be in for a tough shift against a decent Newcastle front line here. With Newcastle being at home, they will have plenty of the ball and it will be played into their front men regularly for Romero and co to deal with. I won’t be surprised if he sees yellow for a sixth time this season on Saturday.

• Anthony Gordon over 0.5 shots on target

Anthony Gordon has had a good season for Newcastle so far, getting him a space in the most recent England squad. This season, he has made 29 Premier League appearances for Eddie Howe’s side, with an average of just under one shot on target per game – 27 so far. Being at home, Newcastle will have plenty of the ball and, despite thinking Spurs will win this one away from home, I do think Newcastle will have a number of chances, and I’d be surprised if Anthony Gordon wasn’t there or there about. He’s great odds to have a shot on target here.
