For the first leg of this League One promotion playoff tie, Sunderland and Portsmouth will meet for the fourth time this season, with both teams scoring in the first three fixtures. That same statistic applies to the last seven league fixtures involving Pompey and they have netted in every league game since the beginning of March. As for the Black Cats, they have failed to score a goal in only one League Two game this season when drawing 0-0 at promoted Barnsley.
Having led the German Bundesliga for much of the season, Borussia Dortmund now appear resigned to finishing in second position with defensive problems and ill-discipline becoming apparent since the beginning of April. Yet Borussia have netted at least twice in seven of their last eight matches and now host a Fortuna Dusseldorf outfit which has enjoyed a productive season since promotion last term. Fortuna have also failed to score in just two games since the beginning of February with four goals netted against both Schalke and Werder Bremen.
During the past few weeks of the French Ligue 1 campaign, Nantes have been arguably one of the more productive teams in front of goal having netted at least twice in their previous five games including the 3-2 defeat of PSG. Les Canaris now face a Nice outfit proving to be a decent defensive team but which has also failed to find the net in just one league match on home soil this year. Few goals are generally scored in Nice matches but in-form Nantes are capable of earning a low-scoring draw.
Despite scoring twice in each of their last two matches, Monaco have claimed just one point as their lingering relegation fears from Ligue 1 persist. The Cote D’Azur team will also arrive in Nimes having netted in each of their last six league games on away turf, but they will be aware that their hosts have scored at least twice in their five prior home fixtures with victories earned in four of those matches. Nimes have failed to net just twice since the beginning of February.
