Can this former England international help save Sunderland from the drop?

It’s certainly fair to say that Joleon Lescott has dropped off the boil rather considerably in recent seasons. The former England international and Manchester City title winner famously endured a season to forget with Aston Villa last term – yet after failing to establish himself with Greek outfit AEK Athens in recent months, the ex-Everton centre-back has now been drafted in at Sunderland to help save David Moyes’ side from the drop.

But at 34-years-old, with his best years firmly behind him in these latter stages of his top-flight career – will the recent capture of Joleon Lescott prove a resounding flop for the Black Cats, or can Sunderland now push on with such a well-experienced professional within their first-team fold?
