Fulham are expected to be very strong this season, and the Cottagers are included in our League Winners Accumulators. Scott Parker’s side may have struggled in the Premier League, but they’ve kept hold of the majority of their key players, with Aleksandar Mitrovic arguably the best bit of business in the division. Parker helped tighten up their leaky defence during the latter stages of the seasons, with just a single goal conceded in four top flight games. They should have more than enough to finish in the top six. With doubts over Huddersfield and Cardiff, they look the strongest of the relegated trio, and should be in the promotion contention.

Barnsley are tipped to struggle this season, but I don’t think Daniel Stendel’s side should be written off. I think the Tykes will be really difficult to beat this season, and I believe they’ll probably avoid an instant return to League One. Although they’ve had to move quickly to replace some of their outgoing players, they appear to have recruited well, and the German coach will have his side playing with terrific energy this season. Having said all of that, it’s hard to imagine them breaking into the top half, and a consolidatory season of 13th-17th seems likely.

Prediction – Fulham top 6 finish and Barnsley bottom half finish – 7/5 with William Hill.

Once again, Fulham should be good enough to finish in the top six positions. Brentford have been doing some eyecatching business in the transfer market, and although the future of Romaine Sawyers is still in doubt, they have more than enough talent in their squad to compete. Pontus Jansson arrives alongside Christian Norgaard and Ethan Pinnock, and they should all make the squad much stronger. The Bees will have had a full pre-season under Thomas Franke, and they are expected to improve upon their 11th placed finish last season.

Birmingham’s problems have been well-documented this summer, and the departure of Che Adams is a big blow for the Blues. He was the first Brum player to score over 20 goals last season in two decades, and he will be sorely missed. Pep Clotet did not succeed at Oxford, and he could struggle to get a tune out of this side. Jota and Michael Morrison have also departed, and they won’t be able to call upon the services of Mikail Kieftenbeld during the opening couple of weeks. Dan Crowley is an interesting addition, but a bottom half finish surely awaits.

Finally, QPR are being tipped by many pundits to struggle this season, but I do think they stand a decent chance of beating the drop. I’ve always liked Mark Warburton, and I think he is a good fit for a club who will be largely reliant on youth this season. Luke Amos and Matt Smith come with plenty of potential whilst Dillon Barnes has been impressive at Colchester previously. Another striker is certainly required, although the former Brentford boss should certainly get the best out of Bright Osayi-Samuel and David Wheeler.

Prediction – Fulham top 6 finish, Brentford top half finish, Birmingham bottom half finish and QPR to stay up – 9/2 with William Hill
