Fantasy Football Tips 2019/20 Forwards – 3 to bin and 3 to buy

Fantasy Football tips

Ahead of the new Fantasy Football Premier League season, which forwards should you have in your team and which forwards shouldn’t be considered? We’ve taken a look at the strikers on the 2019/20 FPL game below.

FPL Forwards Tips

FPL Strikers

Buy – Mason Greenwood, Manchester United (4.5m)

The 17-year-old academy product has seen plenty of action in pre-season. So far, he’s featured in every game, with only 7 others playing more minutes. Greenwood scored the winner against Inter Milan and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has since confirmed the teenager will not be sent out on loan this season. With many fantasy managers investing in defence, Greenwood looks to be the pick of the budget forwards with the best chance of featuring in the first team. Lukaku’s possible departure would only increase his chances of game time.

Bin – Roberto Firmino, Liverpool (9.5m)

In a vacuum, Roberto Firmino is far from a bad choice. 20 goal involvements for a 9.5m forward is a reasonable return. The biggest downside to picking the Brazilian is that he plays for Liverpool. Once again, the Reds offer an array of FPL options and tripling up is a good idea. Robertson, Alexander-Arnold, van Dijk, Salah, Mané and even Alisson outscored Firmino last season, and are all better uses of a valuable Liverpool spot. Salah and Mané are far costlier but can justify that, having each scored 10 more goals as FPL midfielders. The Liverpool defence offers better value for money than Firmino, coming in at 2.5-3m cheaper. Being the 7th best Liverpool asset is a tough sell.

Buy – Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Everton (6.0m)

Everton have arguably the kindest run of fixtures to kick off the season. Coupled with their good form at the tail end of 2018/19, the Toffees fantasy assets are worth a closer look. Calvert-Lewin ended the last campaign as first-choice striker, with a respectable 11 goal involvements. Whilst on the pitch, he was directly involved in 38% of Everton’s goals, only behind Richarlison with 42%. Should Everton fail to sign a striker before the start of the season, DCL looks like a viable option to make the most of their potentially profitable schedule.

Bin – Teemu Pukki (6.5m)

Strikers from promoted teams can be hard to get right and it’s often difficult to know whether you’ll get a Charlie Austin or a Danny Graham. The 29-year-old Finnish frontman has rarely been prolific in front of goal, but he was somewhat of a revelation in his first season at Carrow Road. Pukki hit 29 league goals, claiming the Championship golden boot. At 6.5m Pukki may well turn out to be a good purchase for our Fantasy Football gameweek tips but fixtures against Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City in the opening 5 gameweeks, make him one to avoid at the start.

Buy – Josh King (6.5m)

Callum Wilson stole all the headlines up front for the Cherries last season and his excellent performances have seen him priced at 8m this time around. Josh King retains his 6.5m valuation but could well be under-priced. Wilson is the focal point of the Bournemouth attack so it would be optimistic to expect King to outscore him, but as first choice penalty taker, King does have some advantages. Whilst on the pitch, the Norwegian was directly involved in 31% of Bournemouth goals, a decent involvement when looking at Bournemouth’s potentially useful fixtures.

Bin – Shane Long, (5.0m)

The Saints striker featured prominently towards the end of last season but faces stiff competition heading into gameweek 1. Long will be competing with the likes of Ings, Austin, Obafemi, Adams and possibly Redmond for a spot up top. Ralph Hassenhuttl has often operated with two strikers, but even so, Long’s prospects of starting the season look slim. The arrival of Che Adams and permanent signing of Danny Ings, place Long further down the pecking order. There are better budget forward prospects and Long is best avoided for the time being.
