Have Chelsea already completed the signing of the season?
When N’Golo Kante first arrived among the Premier League with a soon to be successful Leicester City outfit ahead of the 2015/16 domestic campaign, very few within the wider English footballing community ever expected the meagre defensive midfielder to become such an instantaneous hit on these here shores.
Although both Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy certainly served to impress among the heart of Claudio Ranieri’s starting XI down at the King Power Stadium last term, the 25-year-old Frenchman from SM Caen arguably provided those plucky Foxes with their most influential force out on the pitch throughout the entirety of last season.
Kante subsequently became an equally important component within the French national setup at Euro 2016 this summer, even if Didier Deschamps could have in-fact utilized the recently acquired Chelsea man a little more effectively during the latter stages of the summer competition.
Kante is a great signing for Chelsea. Leicester will miss him more than they would have missed Vardy

Can't help being envious at Chelsea having Matic and Kante, coached by a very good manager who was a top defensive midfielder in his day.

Chelsea’s recent £32 million capture of the title-winning Frenchman therefore seems to make a great deal of sense from a Blues point of view. Leicester City fans obviously have every reason to remain deflated and somewhat betrayed by the recent turn of events considering just how solid Ranieri’s starting XI could have looked with Kante still heavily involved among the action, but as the in-demand midfielder will now be plying his trade in and amongst Stamford Bridge next season, perhaps the 2016/17 Premier League table is set to take on a completely new outlook altogether.
Via his never say die attitude in the heart of his manager’s respective midfield plans, tough tackling approach when winning possession back for his side, and cool composed demeanour on the ball when tasked with playing his way out from the back with the minimum fuss possible – this is one player who certainly hasn’t disappointed all that much these past twelve months. Kante represents something of a Claude Makelele type enforcer without the ball at his feet, yet when the 25-year-old Frenchman can be found waltzing up the pitch with possession locked firmly under control, he almost resembles something of a clichéd Barcelona player – someone who rarely gives the ball away even in the most testing of circumstances.
As money has seemingly never proven much of a significant problem for those working tirelessly behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge with every passing transfer window in the modern era, Chelsea fans arguably needn’t even concern themselves with just how much their club has opted to splash out in order to secure Kante’s increasingly in-demand signature. Alongside the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard, Willian and maybe even Roma’s Radja Nainggolan should the recent transfer rumours be believed, the Blues really could represent somewhat of an unstoppable midfield force with N’Golo Kante heavily involved among the action.
So then, although the summer transfer window is admittedly yet to culminate with its usual influx of over-hyped players and big-money transaction fees come deadline-day, Chelsea’s £32 million acquisition of Leicester City’s N’Golo Kante could ultimately prove the most significant deal of the season once all is said and done come this time next year. The 25-year-old midfielder arguably provided the Premier League with its best new addition throughout the previous 2015/16 campaign, so why can’t the newly acquired Blues man chance upon the very same status once again this time around?
