Sunderland vs Tranmere – Sunderland Win

It was a tricky start to life at the Stadium of Light for Phil Parkinson on Saturday as the Black Cats went down 1-0 at Wycombe. The Chairboys are a team that Sunderland have previously had problems with and they don’t make it easy for anyone. The Wearsiders should be far more effective back at home and this game against out-of-form Tranmere is the ideal fixture for the new boss to get off the mark. Away from home, Rovers have lost four of their last six on their travels. Mickey Mellon’s side fell behind against Southend on Friday and do have the benefit of an extra day’s rest here. Sunderland have won three of their last four home matches and they will roared on by a partisan crowd. The men from the Wirrall are always better at home and may struggle to get anything from this tie.

 

Shrewsbury vs Gillingham – Shrewsbury Win

Friday night’s goalless draw against Lincoln was a bit of a war of attrition with both sides coming away with a hard earned point. The Shrews are incredibly tough to beat with only three defeats so far. They’ve now kept three clean sheets in their last four and in each of their last two League One outings. Gillingham are yet to win on the road in six attempts and were defeated at the Priestfield to Peterborough at the weekend. They’ve failed to score in each of their last two away games and although the 0-0 scoreline is a potential danger here, the hosts should be able to find a way through. If the home side net the opener, it’ll be almost impossible for the Gills to peg them back.

 

Rochdale vs MK Dons – Rochdale Win

Rochdale made it back-to-back wins at the weekend with a 3-1 victory at the University of Bolton Stadium. That’s now five goals in two matches and Brian Barry-Murphy’s side have played some lovely stuff in the process. Their home form is patchy, although they do appear to be turning a corner. MK Dons did pick up a point against Coventry at the weekend although it’s a long time since Paul Tisdale’s men picked up maximum points. They have lost four of their last five away games and are yet to score in October. They have drawn three blanks in a row and could struggle to find a way through here. Even if they find a way past Robert Sanchez, they may find it difficult to stop Rochdale from outscoring them.
