Will Wayne Rooney be the next Everton manager?

Some bookies have now priced up the odds for the next Everton manager and it is their former player and lifelong fan Wayne Rooney who is the favourite at odds of 6/5 with Paddy Power. When the market first opened, he was 7/2 but that has shortened following speculation on Social Media that Benitez’s sacking is imminent.

Rooney has been doing a brilliant job at troubled Derby County. The side were hit with a 21 points deduction at the start of the season but he has galvanised the squad and put together a run of results that sees them just eight points from safety, and off the bottom of the Championship table following a 2-0 win over Sheffield United.

There is no doubt he is an inexperienced manager but it may just be that Everton need to change tactic on this appointment after seeing the likes of Sam Allardyce, Ronald Koeman, Roberto Martinez and Rafael Benitez all fail and be sacked as Everton manager in recent seasons.

Rooney would be a fitting replacement but will the board be willing to gamble on somebody so inexperienced?

Next Everton Manager Odds – The Main Contenders

Aside from Wayne Rooney, there are some familiar names towards the top of the next Everton manager odds on Oddschecker including another club legend in Duncan Ferguson and another young inexperienced manager in Frank Lampard.

Rafa Benitez is now as short as 1/18 to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked and it would be no surprise to see him sacked today.

Another chance for Duncan Ferguson?

Big Dunc took charge of three matches before Carlo Ancelotti was appointed the Everton manager and he picked up three decent results, beating Chelsea 3-1 at Goodison Park before draws with Manchester United and Arsenal.

Stepping up to the job full time is a different ball game but there is no doubt he would have the backing of the fans and the players. He has been a coach at Everton for a number of years and knows the club inside out.

Frank Lampard to Everton?

Lampard did a good job at Derby to get them within one match of the Premier League but didn’t quite get it right at Chelsea when he took over there. However, that experience could stand him in good stead for another shot as a Premier League manager and Everton might be a good fit. In the next Everton manager odds on Paddy Power, Frank Lampard is currently the 13/2 third favourite and this is a job he is likely to be interested in after ruling himself out of the Watford job earlier in the season.

Could Graham Potter be tempted to Goodison Park?

Graham Potter was the name on a lot of people’s lips before Rafa Benitez was given the job in the summer and he’s towards the top of the next Everton manager odds this time around too. The Brighton manager earns a lot of plaudits for the way he sets his team up and how they play, but Brighton do struggle to score goals. That might not be so much of a problem at Everton with the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Demari Gray at his disposal. Would Potter leave Brighton to be the next Everton manager though?
