The Sunderland fans were back in London last night ahead of their League One play-off final against Charlton at Wembley, and their fans once again took over Trafalgar Square.

It is Sunderland’s second visit to the capital this season after they played Portsmouth in the EFL Trophy Final – they were beaten that day but got their revenge on Pompy by beating them in the semi-final of the play-offs. They now face a one match shootout for a place in the Championship and you can see our Charlton vs Sunderland predictions for today’s Wembley showpiece.

Ahead of the play-off final, Sunderland fans started to descend on London on Saturday, understandable given the long journey from the North East, and they quickly found their way to Trafalgar Square, as Saturday evening went on, more and more Black Cats fans started to gather and there are some great fan photos and videos of the atmosphere around London.

Fans were partying in the capital and some even took a dip in the fountains to cool off.

No pyro-no party for the Sunderland fans in Trafalgar Square last night.

This group of Sunderland fans were greeted by cheers when they made it to the top of the fountain.

Another great shot of the growing Sunderland crowd in central London.

There was flares, singing and plenty of booze for the fans as the evening went on.

Unfortunately, with this many people in one area there is going to be an aftermath and the Trafalgar Square clean up operation would have been in full flow when the Black Cats supporters left.
