Who really represents the better player – Dimitri Payet or Mesut Ozil?

Who really represents the better player – Dimitri Payet or Mesut Ozil?

Despite the vast majority of Gunners and Hammers fans largely enjoying a somewhat respectful relationship across the Premier League era for the most part, one major aspect of the 2015/16 domestic season has nonetheless seen a certain air of contention arise within the determined Upton Park faithful and the ever ‘entertaining’ Arsenal supporters…

Since West Ham’s mercurial summer signing of Dimitri Payet initially burst onto the scene among the English top-flight earlier on this campaign, major comparisons between the 29-year-old Frenchman and Arsenal’s Word Cup winning Mesut Ozil have subsequently cropped up for much of the current season.

Both players remain exceptionally gifted even at the worst of times it has to be said – but as the Emirates faithful have shamelessly decided to lift the ‘We’ve got Payet’ song from their Hammers counterparts down in the east-end of London in 2015/16 – this is one particular debate that doesn’t look like making itself scarce any time soon.

So then, in light of this weekend’s widely captivating fixture that saw both Arsenal and West Ham reach a 3-3 stalemate last time out in the Premier League – who ultimately represents the better player when all is said and done, Dimitri Payet or Mesut Ozil?

Well, before the two sides eventually came up against one another at Upton Park this Saturday, and Mesut Ozil admittedly served to silence the Hammers faithful with his opening goal on the day, the people down at Soccer AM certainly seemed to have made their stance clear with some conviction…

…and even though the widely admired German international opened the scoring in stylish fashion last time out at Upton Park, his overall impact on the match was arguably overshadowed by that of Dimitri Payet…

Certain fans nonetheless remain somewhat adamant regarding Ozil’s notoriously impressive quality out on the pitch for the Gunners…

…yet whilst the former Real Madrid man has certainly enjoyed a more glistening career than his French counterpart thus far, his equally distinct habit of going missing all too often simply can’t be denied either…

Although this particular debate will seemingly rage on until the end of the 2015/16 campaign itself…

…at least the pair of creative midfield talents have successfully got their fans operating at full voice for the most part this season…

…even if the general Arsenal fan base arguably lacks a certain sense of creativity itself in the cold light of day…

Dimitri Payet has nonetheless been accused by some of being somewhat inconsistent throughout the past four seasons or so…

But in the end however, both players deserve massive praise for serving to set the Premier League alight this term…

…as Mesut Ozil seemingly hasn’t got it in his locker to pull goals like this one out of the bag time and time again though…

…maybe this discussion should have ultimately been put to bed a long, long time ago!
