How to watch the 2019 Champions League final for Free

Champions League tips

Tottenham and Liverpool are heading to Madrid for the 2019 Champions League final and as well as the scramble for tickets, flights and hotel rooms, there is also some confusion about if you’ll be able to watch the Champions League final without a BT Sport subscription.

BT Sport has the rights to both the Europa League final, and Champions League final and only people paying the subscription can usually watch Champions League matches on TV, however, there is hope for everybody because for the last two seasons, BT Sport have opened the Champions League final up so people WITHOUT a subscription can still watch the match on TV.

Will the Champions League final be free to watch on TV?

As yet, nothing has been confirmed by BT Sport regarding the coverage of the Champions League final, however, this is expected to happen shortly. If they don’t open the game up to non-subscribers then you might have to be a little bit cleverer to get the match on your TV. One way would be to get a friend or family with a subscription to give you their login details, you could then stream the match on the BT Sport website and cast it to your TV or link your laptop to the TV with a HDMI cable.

In truth, it is very likely that the Tottenham vs Liverpool match will be available to non-BT customers and they have even showed it on YouTube in the past three seasons.

BT Sport used to have a freeview channel called ‘BT Sport Showcase’ and this could be reinstated so freeview customers can get access to the 2019 Champions League final on TV.

EE Customers Can get BT Sport for Free

If you are an EE customer, you get BT Sport on your mobile for free for three months. So one option would be to register for a new contract or SIM card, and watch the match on your mobile. The downside to this is that BT Sport have been very clever and ensured you cannot cast from your mobile to a TV device.

You can get this by texting SPORT to 150 or phoning 07953 966502 and follow the instructions.

The free trial will allow you to watch all BT Sport channels – excluding the red button options – via the app, while free casting to your television is also included.

At the end of your free trial, you can continue using this service, but it will cost £5 a month for the app so don’t forget to cancel it.

You can cancel at any time during the free trial, simply by texting STOP SPORT to 150.

Can you get a BT Sport day pass?

The simple answer to this is no. Unlike the NowTV pass from Sky, there is no option to get a day pass for BT Sport. It is unlikely that this will change in time for the Champions League final. The Sky NowTV pass has proved very popular so it may be that BT Sport eventually roles out a similar day pass, giving you access to their coverage for a 24 hour period.

How to watch BT Sport Online

You get access to the BT Sport app and live streaming on the BT Sport website when you take out your TV subscription, but we would advise holding on if you are thinking about taking out a subscription for the Champions League final between Tottenham and Liverpool because there is a very god chance the firm will honour their promise of streaming the match on their YouTube channel, app and online for free, even without a subscription.

To watch BT Sport online you simply need to download their app, head to their Youtube channel or go to the BT Sport website, where you can create an account for free or sign-in and hopefully, the 2019 final will be streamed live on there.

When announcing the £1.2bn exclusive rights deal in 2017, BT made the pledge: ‘BT will enhance its social media coverage to reach new audiences, by making clips, weekly highlights, UEFA’s magazine show, and both finals available for free on social media’.
