PSG vs Manchester United Predictions and Betting Tips: Champions League Preview

PSG predictions

PSG vs Manchester United predictions and betting tips for the Champions League last sixteen second leg in the French capital. It’s fair to say the visitors have their work cut out and go into this one as huge outsiders – both for the match itself, and for progressing any further in the competition.

PSG vs Manchester United Match Preview

The French champions made a huge statement in Manchester three weeks ago and caused United’s interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to suffer his only defeat in sixteen matches at the helm. United were frankly outplayed on that occasion and will be without Paul Pogba for the second leg after he was sent off at Old Trafford. The good news for Red Devils fans is that Neymar and Edinson Cavani are both still sidelined but that didn’t stop PSG cruising to victory the first time around.

One thing is for certain – the visitors need goals. And scoring hasn’t really been an issue for Manchester United since the Norwegian returned to the club. The problem for them is that PSG are arguably even more adept in the final third. I’m backing the hosts to see off the 20-time English champions here but it wouldn’t surprise me whatsoever if United did bag at least once to make the tie more interesting.

Anytime Goalscorer Prediction for PSG vs Manchester United

For reasons largely unknown, things didn’t really work out for Angel Di Maria when he swapped Real Madrid for Manchester United during Louis Van Gaal’s ill-fated tenure. The Argentinian attacker came with a massive reputation but generally flattered to deceive despite his promising start on these shores. Predictably, it was Di Maria who laid on both goals in PSG’s win at Old Trafford and I don’t think he’d mind admitting that he’d love to stick one past his former club. The 31-year-old was taunted and jeered upon his return to the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ but crowd hostilities were far from enough to contain him that night. Di Maria has scored thirteen goals in all competitions so far this campaign and is 21/10 to notch anytime on Wednesday evening.

PSG vs Manchester United Correct Score Prediction

Once upon a time, Manchester United were rightly regarded as one of the continent’s heavyweights and very much a force to be reckoned with in footballing terms. That’s no longer the case, however, and the fact that United have won just one of their last 10 Champions League knockout games probably won’t come as much of a surprise  to anyone who can recall some of their recent exits from Europe’s biggest club competition.

PSG, meanwhile, have lost just one of their last sixteen Champions League home games – which came against eventual winners Real Madrid. Thomas Tuchel will be keen to improve on the form that eventually led to Unai Emery’s departure, and that means delivering on the biggest stage. As usual, PSG are cantering to the domestic league title but it’s progress against the elite that the club’s hierarchy are really looking for. I’m expecting the home side to continue their good form at the Parc de Princes and can see them edging out an attack-minded Manchester United by the odd goal in three. That’s 15/2 with bet365 and would ensure PSG reach the last eight with relative ease, all things considered.
