Charlton vs Sheffield Wednesday Betting Odds

Despite having not won been victorious on the road since September 28th, Sheffield Wednesday begin this game as the favourites and can be backed 21/20 to collect three points at the Valley. Garry Monk’s side picked up a point in midweek and will be hoping to get back to winning ways on Saturday lunchtime. Charlton are deemed the outsiders for this fixture and they can be backed at 5/2 with Unibet to pick up their first victory since October 19th. The draw can be backed at 12/5 and is likely to be popular. The Owls have seen four of their last seven games end all-square and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this game go the same way.

Charlton vs Sheffield Wednesday Preview

Charlton have had a number of injuries in recent weeks and their small squad has been stretched during this busy period. The Addicks were defeated at Luton in midweek and Lee Bowyer’s men are searching for their first Championship victory in over a month here. Described as ‘backs against the wall’ by defender Tom Lockyer, it’s another quick turnaround for the club, who continue to be dogged by off-field uncertainty. Bowyer has done superbly to guide his side to a mid-table position, but the early-season positivity is slowly beginning to ebb away and the former Leeds midfielder must find a way of getting his side upwardly mobile once again. Last weekend, they took a two goal lead against Cardiff before the Bluebirds mounted their comeback after the break. Unfortunately, Charlton’s young side appear unable to compete across a full 90 minutes and they play well for short periods of the game before losing their tempo. They’ve only lost three times in South London and each of those defeats has been by just a single goal. Sheffield Wednesday picked up yet another point in midweek as Garry Monk went head-to-head with his former club Birmingham. The Owls aren’t quite firing on all cylinders, although they are tough to beat. They will be without key defender Julien Borner for this tie. He limped off against the Blues and won’t be fit enough to face the Addicks. The South Yorkshire side have won three times on the road this season, beating the three sides who sit directly below Charlton in the Championship table. They’ve struggled to score goals in recent weeks and have only scored more than a single strike in a game just once since September 28th.

Charlton vs Sheffield Wednesday Predictions

There’s not much between these two sides so backing the draw is the logical solution. Monk’s men have drawn five times this campaign and four of those stalemates have come since October 18th. Charlton are struggling to be effective for a full 90 mins and they may have to settle for a point here. The Addicks have held Forest and Cardiff to draws at this stadium and they could do the same on Saturday lunchtime. The draw is 13/5 with Unibet and is one of two recommended bets for this contest. Wednesday have kept just a single clean sheet on the road this campaign and Charlton have a number of dangers going forward. Jonathon Leko has been amongst the goals whilst the hugely talented Conor Gallagher continues to impress in an advanced role. Both teams to score is best priced at 5/6 with Coral and should land once again.
