Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds Preview – 26/10/2019 Championship

Sheffield Wednesday have suffered just a single defeat since Garry Monk arrived in South Yorkshire and the Owls are very difficult to beat on their own patch. Buoyed by their back-to-back victories, Stoke arrived full of confidence on Tuesday night but weren’t able to find a way through. Despite being on the winning side, many Wednesday fans described the match as forgettable. The hosts restricted the visitors to just a single effort on goal in the 90 minutes and their back-line is likely to be kept busy once again on Saturday lunchtime.

Garry Monk has told reporters that the table ‘means nothing’ and that he isn’t interested in the Owls’ lofty position. They sit third and will come into this game just a point behind the visitors.

Leeds could only pick up a point at Deepdale although the Whites once again created enough chances to win the game. After Tom Barkhuizen had give Preston the lead, the visitors peppered the opposition goal with effort before sub Eddie Nketiah levelled late on. It was another frustrating evening for the visiting supporters, who headed across the Pennines in great numbers.

Leeds also thought they should have been awarded a late penalty in the game although Kevin Friend waved away any protestations.

Is it time for Eddie Nketiah to Start?

The on-loan striker has only played a bit-part role so far since arriving from Arsenal and there are a growing number of voices calling for him to play a full 90 minutes. He managed to find the net in just 13 minutes of football and will surely be able to convert some of the club’s countless opportunities.

It’s one of the few frustrations that the Leeds fans have with Marcelo Bielsa. The Argentina is a vastly experienced coach who tends to stick to his system rigidly and there often isn’t much room for negotiation.

On average, he plays just 24 mins per game although he’s found the net approximately every 72 minutes. He’s 2/1 with Betfair to make it two from two by scoring anytime in this encounter.

Can Sheffield Wednesday’s Defence Keep it Tight Once Again?

The combination of Julien Borner and Dominic Iorfa appears to be flourishing and its been a formidable partnership of late. They allowed Stoke just a single shot on target inside 90 minutes and have shipped just two goals in their last four games.

They’ve kept three clean sheets in five games and have conceded just three goals during that time. Although Stoke, Wigan and Luton are less prolific than Leeds, they won’t make it easy for the visitors and Leeds could become frustrated if they can’t find a route to goal.
