Swansea vs Birmingham Preview

Swansea were widely tipped for another season of transition following the departure of the well-regarded Graham Potter, but the Welsh club have started the season in top form, and new boss Steve Cooper has got his side firing on all cylinders. They were far from vintage against QPR on Wednesday night, but they still managed to leave West London with a 3-1 victory, and they are odds-on to extend their winning run. They were also second best (according to the XG and the shot data) against Preston at the Liberty last weekend, yet they still came away with all three points. The Swans have a secret weapon in the shape of Borja Baston. The former Atletico man was out in the cold for all of last season, but he’s been given a reprieve, and he has truly made the most of it. Baston has been ably assisted by the excellent George Byers, and recent signing Sam Surridge, who got off the mark for the season in midweek. Despite constant cost-cutting measures at the club, there are still a number of hugely talented players in the squad, and they are one of the season’s surprise packages (at this very early stage).

Birmingham were back to winning ways on Tuesday night, and it seems that the Blues are going to pick up the majority of their points at St.Andrews this season. Lukas Jutkiewicz was on the score-sheet, and he is going to be a thorn in the side of many a Championship defence this campaign. Pep Clotet’s side have questionnable form on the road, with a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Nottingham Forest last weekend, and an extremely lucky 1-0 victory over Brentford on the opening weekend. They have a lot of neat footballers, who will play some extremely eyecatching stuff, but it doesn’t necessarily come off week in-week out. The Blues sit in the top half, and although it’s still early days, many fans will be happy with progress considering it had been another tumultuous summer off-the-field. They’ve conceded just four goals in four games, and will be very difficult to breach at home. Maxime Colin missed the midweek game, but the Frenchman looks set to return for this fixture.

Swansea vs Birmingham Betting Tips

Swansea are favourites for a reason, and they deserve to be odds-on. They have been in excellent goalscoring form, and have netted eight times in four matches. At home, they are going to be strong this campaign, and could have too much for Brum. Even if they don’t have much of the ball, they still counter with speedy precision, and they could grab a few in this one. Swansea Over 1.5 Goals is an option, but it may be better just to back Coopers men to collect three points and continue their brilliant start the season. Birmingham haven’t convinced on the road yet, and nothing about their display against Forest suggested that they will be winning away from home again anytime soon.

It’s no surprise to see Borja Baston at the top of the anytime goalscorer market. He’s been in excellent form, and the club will hoping to keep hold of him until at least January. He’s looked lethal in the final third, and he is 7/4 with 888Sport to find the back of the net once more.
