Wigan vs Nottingham Forest Preview – 20/10/2019 Championship

Wigan have carried on where they left off last season with their excellent home form balancing out their inabilities on the road. The Latics have certainly been effective at the DW and beat Cardiff (3-2) on the opening day of the campaign. They come into this game off the back of three consecutive clean sheets in front of their own fans with Birmingham, Charlton and Barnsley all failing to breach the Wigan rearguard and they’ll be hoping to do the same to Nottingham Forest.

Unfortunately for Paul Cook’s men, Forest are one of the best away sides in the division. Although Wigan have never lost a home match to the Tricky Trees, they come up against a rejuvinated outfit who have picked up twelve points on the road so far and a team who haven’t lost since the opening day of the campaign.

Forest were last seen sneaking past Brentford at the City Ground, but it’s their results at Elland Road, Craven Cottage and the Liberty which have caught the eye this season. Sabri Lamouchi (manager of the month for September) has his side set up in incredibly solid fashion and they are tough to break down. They won’t make this easy for the hosts.

Wigan’s Home Form Makes Them Difficult to Write Off

The Latics have lost just one of their last fifteen games here with Paul Cook’s men proving very effective in front of their own fans. The Scouser’s 4-2-3-1 system doesn’t always have the desired effect on the road, but it certainly comes up with the goods at the DW.

Leeds are the only side to have left with all three points since New Years Day (Sheffield United) and Forest will have to be at their very best here.

Forest are unbeaten in their last six league matches with Wigan although they have never won at this ground.

Low Scoring 90 Minutes

I must admit, this doesn’t seem like an obvious pick for Sky Sports. The game may be a defensive contest with both sides proving effective at the back. Last season, Wigan conceded just 20 goals in 23 home matches and have kept three clean sheets in five fixtures this time around. Meanwhile, Forest have conceded just nine times so far this campaign although they’ve only managed one shutout on the road.

Neither side are easily breached and this could be a decent battle. It might not be full of goals, but there should plenty of shape and discipline on display.

Under 2.5 Goals is 7/9 with Sporting Bet and looks a decent option for this Sunday afternoon contest.

Grabban to Grab the Winner?

Lewis Grabban has scored five goals this season with all but one of those strikes arriving away from the City Ground. The striker is an excellent target man at this level and the club have clearly been playing to his strengths. He’s proved effective in the final third and although he only averages around two shots per game on the road, he’s proved fairly deadly when it matters.

He’s the 7/4 favourite to score anytime in this game with Bet365
