The 2019 Cheltenham Festival is just around the corner and we have picked out three betting tips for the day 1 races to put in a Trixie bet. If we can get three winners out of three the return will be massive but even two winners will get us a return.
Bet on Angels Breath to win the Supreme Novices Hurdle at 11/2 with Unibet.
Bet on Laurina to win the Champion Hurdle at 7/2 with Unibet.
Bet on OK Corral to win the Nation Hunt Chase at 3/1 with Unibet.
The first selection in our Cheltenham Festival yankee is coming from the very first race, the Supreme Novices Hurdle. Nicky Henderson is due to run two in the race but Angels Breath looks his better chance, and he confirmed that at a recent Cheltenham preview night. The former favourite was beaten on his recent start but that run might not have been as bad as first envisaged, with Henderson seeming relatively happy with the performance and he should come on a lot for that. He was pulling double as they went a crawl at the start, allowed the winner to get first run and a strongly run Supreme will surely allow him to settle much better.
The new Supreme Novices Hurdle favourite is Al Dancer (10/3 with Betfair), who comes into this race off the back of four straight wins over hurdles. He won the Betfair Hurdle and has also won at Cheltenham before, but we’re looking to take him on at he prices.
Amaron and Classical Dream are the two horses Willie Mullins is expected to run in the race but Classical Dream could go down the Ballymore route. Both have Grade 1 form in Ireland and aren’t without a chance if they turn up.
For our Cheltenham Festival 2019 yankee bet, Angels Breath is the selection.
Reigning Champion Buveur D’air is still the ante-post favourite for this race despite getting beat by Veranda Blue. A mistake at the last cost him the race and he’ll have to be better to win this race with both Apples Jade and Laurina getting weight allowance. There is a question mark over the form of his win against Samcro after the Gordon Elliott inmate came out with issues. The two Mares look to be the Champion’s main dangers and Apples Jade is the better fancied in the latest Champion Hurdle betting odds.
Apples Jade has been almost faultless this season and Gigginstown and Elliott have been so impressed with her that she has been rerouted to the Champion Hurdle from the easier Mare’s Hurdle.
Our selection is Laurina, the Willie Mullins trained Mare who has remained unbeaten since jumping hurdles. She has only run once and although she was visually impressive, she didn’t beat anything and should come on leaps and bounds for that run. If Mullins does run Laurina in the Champion Hurdle rather than the Mares Hurdle, it tells you that he is expecting a lot of improvement and with no runner no bet in action, Lauria is the Champion Hurdle betting tip.
This is always one of the trickiest races of the week to call but Nicky Henderson could have the winner in the form of OK Corral. His win in a good listed race at Warwick put him to the top of the betting and he has been supported since. He beat Impulsive Star that day who is currently a 14/1 shot in the betting odds. He is lightly raced but jumps well and Nicky Henderson seems bullish about him going into the Festival.
Second favourite for the National Hunt Chase is Ballyward, who is Willie Mullins’ main chance. He raced clear of Champagne Classic in his most recent run at Naas and that form should give him the edge over some of this field. Discorama also ran in that race and was going well until a blunder at the last cost him his chance and in races like this, just one error is enough to put you out of the contest.
The selection for our third tip on day 1 of the 2019 Cheltenham Festival is OK Corral in the National Hunt Chase.
Angels Breath to win the Supreme Novices Hurdle at 11/2 with Unibet.
Laurina to win the Champion Hurdle at 7/2 with Unibet.
OK Corral to win the Nation Hunt Chase at 3/1 with Unibet.
