England v Russia Betting Tips, Predictions and Preview – Euro 2016
England play Russia in their opening Euro 2016 Group B match on Saturday 11th June 2016 and we’ve got some early betting tips for the fixture.
England will want to get off to a strong start in Group B at Euro 2016 and they have a great chance to do so against Russia.
Euro 2016 Match Preview: England v Russia
Roy Hodgson will want to bury the memory of the 2014 World Cup and at least progress to the latter stages of Euro 2016 this time around. The build-up for England has been good to this date, going unbeaten in Euro 2016 qualifying and recovering from 2-0 down to beat Germany 3-2 in their own back yard. Many people are saying England’s Euro 2016 squad will be the best in decades and that is once again filling the nation with hope of glory in France.
The latest odds for England to win Euro 2016 are 9/1 at Coral.
Harry Kane is almost certain to start against Russia and he will be the focal point of the England line-up. The Wayne Rooney question rumbles on but he will first need to prove his fitness following injury. Dele Alli and Ross Barkley are likely to battle it out with Wayne Rooney for a place in behind Harry Kane and Eric Dier is expected to start.
Russia finished as runners up behind Austria in their qualifying group, losing just twice in the whole campaign. At the 2014 World Cup Russia suffered a similar fate to England and were very disappointing, drawing with South Korea and Algeria and losing 1-0 to Belgium. They only won one of their first four qualifying matches for Euro 2016 but had a great second half of the campaign, winning five and losing just once, conceding only two goals in those matches. A change of coach was the catalyst for a change in performances and Russia are likely to provide England’s biggest test in Euro 2016 Group B.
England v Russia Predictions
I do expect England to win their opening match, but it will be close. Russia were very good defensively in qualifying but they have recently conceded four against France and three against Croatia in friendlies. England don’t usually score a lot of goals in major tournaments and the last World Cup illustrated that perfectly. My first England vs Russia prediction is for England to win 1-0. The best odds for this correct score prediction are 11/2 at William Hill.
England’s odds to beat Russia are currently 6/5 at Betfair and that looks about right. Hodgson will want to get England off to a winning start and if he sets his team up with pace in the forward positions England should be too strong for an aging Russia squad. My second England v Russia betting tip is for England to win at 6/5 with Betfair.
