Euro 2016 England Squad – 5 Players Who Could Still Make the Squad

Most of the public have by now selected a favoured starting 11 for England’s opening group match with Russia on June 11th. But it’ll Roy Hodgson who has the final say and on May 12th, he will name his 23 man squad.

We’re going to take a look at some of the outsiders who may still get a call up for England’s Euro 2016 squad this summer.

Five Outside Bets to Make the England Euro 2016 Squad

Andy Carroll

Andy Carroll England squad

The big frontman provoked debate this weekend after his impressive hat-trick against Arsenal. He offers something different to the electric pace of Vardy and precise finishing of Harry Kane. Not every opponent is the same and sometimes tactics have to be swapped mid-match. Would having a battering ram on the bench be an advantage to Hodgson? He’s had his injury problems, but if he can be fit throughout the tournament, he can be a real asset. A fit and firing Andy Carroll with the bit between his teeth can be unplayable at times and perhaps it’s time he got another call up? It would probably take a few injuries to fellow strikers, but he isn’t out of the running for the England squad this summer.

What odds is Andy Carroll to be in the England Euro 2016 squad? 10/1 at bet365.

Aaron Cresswell

Creswell England Euro 2016 squad

Sticking with West Ham for now, Aaron Cresswell is surely a decent shout for left back. It’s far from England’s strongest position and with Leighton Baines out of favour/form and Luke Shaw’s long term injury, it’s been Danny Rose’s position to lose. Kieran Gibbs is another option as is Ryan Bertrand, but Cresswell has had another superb season and has plenty of potential. He gets forward well and can take a set piece. He’s a reliable sort and will work diligently for the team. He also seems fairly adaptable and would fit straight into the team. With Danny Rose’s penchant for a rash tackle, many people would approve is Cresswell got the call.

What are is Aaron Cresswell to be in the England Euro 2016 squad? 25/1 at bet365.

Marc Albrighton

Albrighton Euro 2016 squad

There was a time when it seemed that Albrighton would be consigned to the footballing scrapheap. A distant memory for many fans whose name would occasionally spark nostalgia and a sense of ‘what could have been?’ His career has been rejuvenated under Claudio Ranieri though and he is part of a team who could potentially wrap up the title. He has added consistency to his game and if Hodgson wished to add some width to the team, he could be a very real possibility. He played down any talk of a call up in March, but he could be a surprise addition. Raheem Sterling hasn’t been particularly reliable this season and if England are too narrow, he could be an option. He’s also familiar with the work of Jamie Vardy and could link up with the frontman to devastating effect.

What odds is Marc Albrighton to be in the England Euro 2016 squad? 28/1 at Sky Bet.

Kieran Trippier

Tripper Euro 2016 squad

Another full back who could be called up. There are plenty of options at right back but Kyle Walker isn’t guaranteed a spot. His decision making can sometimes be slower than Trippier and although inexperienced, Trippier can also provide a threat direct from a set piece. He’s an outside bet, but he isn’t without possibility. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been playing week in, week out, but you can guarantee he will give 100% and take his chance whenever he gets a run in the team. He’s made six appearances in the team this season and Spurs have won them all.

What odds if Kieran Trippier to be in the England Euro 2016 squad? 33/1 at bet365.

Andros Townsend

Townsend Euro 2016 squad England

Is there any possibility that Hodgson will have seen much of Townsend this season? Probably not, but he appears to be one of the few players who wants to be at Newcastle. He’s scored a couple of goals recently and if he can get his head down and focus on his game, he could put himself in contention? Like many others on this list, Injuries would have to hit Hodgson’s squad, but Townsend knows what it’s like to wear the England shirt and is a different option to Sterling on the wing. He would be the only the Newcastle representative, but is familiar with many of the Spurs contingent and would be perhaps a left-field choice.

What odds is Andros Townsend to be in the England Euro 2016 squad? 12/1 at bet365.
