Euro 2016 Preview and Predictions for the Republic of Ireland

With less than a month to go before Euro 2016 finally kicks off this summer, it’s about time we took a closer look at what Group E could potentially have in store for all us budding football fans over the next few weeks, continuing with the Republic of Ireland and everything Martin O’Neill’s determined outfit can expect to achieve at the upcoming competition…

Chances of success:

Although the Republic of Ireland certainly seem to know how to celebrate their presence at any major international tournament – whether that be among the upcoming European championships or within previous World Cup campaigns – achieving safe passage from Group E at Euro 2016 this summer will definitely prove a task much easier said than done.

The Republic of Ireland may indeed possess all the necessary grit and determination to give their Group E opposition a real run for their money at the upcoming competition, but do they really have enough quality on board to snatch an illustrious spot among those all-important knock-out stages this summer? Arguably not…

Ones to watch:

Whilst each of Darren Randolph, John O’Shea, James McCarthy and Wes Hoolahan seemingly represent a decent enough range of Irish talent from the Premier League this season, Southampton’s Shane Long must arguably go down as the Republic of Ireland’s greatest threat at Euro 2016 with all things fairly considered.

If Martin O’Neill’s side do eventually cause a major upset or two and manage to seal successful qualification from Group E this summer, then the quick-feet and smart goal-scoring prowess of Shane Long will likely be at the forefront of everything positive for the Irish at the upcoming international tournament.

From the dug-out:

Euro 2016 Preview and Predictions for the Republic of Ireland

The combination of both Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane among the Irish dug-out at Euro 2016 could admittedly install a certain amount of newfound confidence in the Republic of Ireland once the highly anticipated competition finally gets underway this summer.

O’Neill has enjoyed a rather profitable spell among the top flights of both English and Scottish football after all. He has all the necessary experience to lead his team onto improved fortunes at Euro 2016 it must be said, yet whether or not this team will actually turn out in formidable style under the 64-year-old tactician remains somewhat up in the air at this very moment.

Republic of Ireland’s Euro 2016 predictions:

Without wanting to cast this proud outfit aside before a ball has even been kicked at Euro 2016 this summer, it certainly remains somewhat difficult to imagine the Republic of Ireland triumphantly traversing Group E and ultimately coming out on top over the likes of Belgium, Italy and Sweden.

Luck may famously reside on the side of the Irish at Euro 2016 of course, but even with such a notion on board for Martin O’Neill’s determined team, the Republic of Ireland’s overall chances of success still remain somewhat improbable when all is said and done.
