Germany vs Italy predictions and betting tips for tonight’s Euro 2016 warm-up friendly as both sides prepare for this summer’s tournament.
There's a cracking friendly over in Germany tonight as Joachim Lowe's men take on Italy in Munich. The match is live on BT Sport Europe at 7:45pm and here are our match predictions and betting tips.
If the world champions were looking to get some confidence ahead of Euro 2016, they are not exactly going about it the right way at the moment. Obviously it would be rather presumptuous to look into friendlies so much at this stage, but the Germans have now lost their last two on the bounce and both to likely rivals for this summer's tournament.
Although France's 2-0 victory in Paris was marred by the terrorist attacks in the capital that night, the Germans certainly didn't fare much better a couple of days ago when England came to town. Not only did the hosts surrender a 2-0 lead, they were comprehensively outplayed by a hungrier and far more energetic English side on the night. There's no doubt Germany can be unstoppable on their day, but Joachim Lowe's side do look a player or two short in certain positions as they prepare for Euro 2016 Group C with Northern Ireland, Poland and Ukraine.
Opponents Italy make the trip across Europe fresh from topping their qualifying group with a four-point cushion. Although they have drawn two most recent friendlies, they were a couple of tough matches at home to Spain and Romania, so again, it's probably not worth reading into these results too much.
One thing I have noticed about Italy recently, though, is that they are far more attacking than some of the teams of old. Whilst they might not have a Maldini or a Del Piero in their ranks at the moment, there is more than enough quality to hurt the best of opposition when they get it right. Obviously they did not get it right at the World Cup a couple of years ago, but the Italians did go undefeated all the way through qualifying and look a decent price of 18/1 to win Euro 2016 if they can safely negotiate the group of death with Belgium, Ireland and Sweden in Group E.
Heading into Tuesday's clash and Germany are comfortable favourites in the eyes of the bookies at a best price of 10/11. Italy can be backed at tempting price of 15/4, with the draw on offer at 13/5.
First and foremost, I'm going to suggest backing both teams to score for my first Germany vs Italy prediction. Italy's last five matches in a row have finished via this outcome and Germany's last five home games have also followed suit. Considering the match is an international, you generally tend to get some slightly better odds in this market so pick this one up at 10/11 with William Hill.
Result wise, I'm already shaking my head as you really never know when it comes to friendlies. On paper, one would expect the Germans to come out on top, especially with home advantage behind them. However, they looked defensively suspect on numerous occasions against England and I can't say I would be overly confident in backing them at the moment. Nevertheless, my second football prediction for Germany vs Italy tonight is a German win and BTTS at 3/1 with William Hill.
Finally, it would be rude not to have a look in the goalscoring market for any anytime goalscorer tip and Italian Lorenzo Insigne has caught my eye this season after a number of lively displays for Napoli in Serie A. The diminutive striker has had to work hard for his chance for the national side and actually scored the opener against Spain last week only minutes after being introduced as a second half substitute. Therefore, my final Germany vs Italy betting tip is for Insigne to score anytime in the match at 7/2 with Betfred.
