France vs Romania Betting Tips and Predictions – Euro 2016 Group A

France vs Romania betting tips and predictions for the opening match of Euro 2016 on Friday June 10th including a match preview and the best odds for each bet.

On June 10th with the eyes of the world watching, hosts France kick off Euro 2016 in Saint Denis. Romania are the opponents as Euro 2016 Group A begins and the month long tournament gets underway.

France vs Romania Betting Preview

France

It’s been an odd couple of years for France. As hosts, they weren’t required to qualify and watched whilst every other International team slogged it out whilst they played a succession of friendlies. Their last competitive game was back in July 2014 at the World Cup in Brazil and since then they’ve played 18 friendlies. They’ve won 13 of the 18 friendlies, including four of the last five.

There’s almost an embarrassment of riches to choose from in the France squad and Didier Deschamps will announce his squad on Thursday 18th May. It doesn’t look like Karim Benzema will be allowed to play, but with Antoine Griezmann in fine form for his club and the options of Olivier Giroud, Kingsley Coman, Anthony Martial and Andre Pierre Gignac all available, he shouldn’t be missed.

One of the big decisions that Deschamps will have to make is whether Morgan Schneiderlin will be called up. The former Southampton man has had a stop-start season with Manchester United and with the emergence of Ngolo Kante, his position in the squad is under scrutiny. Paul Pogba and Dimitri Payet are two standout midfielders and there’s class wherever you look.

The coach has warned that his side need to start on the front foot and not be complacent. Albania and Switzerland make up the other members of Group A and France will want to put down a marker.

With so much power and pace going forward, it’s easy to forget about defending and France haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last three friendlies. They scored seven goals against Netherlands and Russia and had seven different scorers.

Romania

Romania were one of the toughest sides to beat in the qualifying group and they will continue to be hard to break down. Fiorentina goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu and his goal were sheltered by some excellent defending and France will have to be patient if they want to find a way past them.

They are extremely well drilled as you would expect under a managed who has the nickname ‘The General’. 66-year-old former Steaua Bucharest player Anghel Iordanescu in the man tasked with getting Romania into the knock-out stages. They reached the quarter finals in Euro 2000, but they were bestowed with household names back then.

Iordanescu has experience of these tournaments though as he led Romania to the same stage back in 1994, largely in part down to Gheorghe Hagi. They rarely lose and Lordanescu will see a clean sheet as the ultimate goal here. They only conceded twice during qualifying and they won’t be giving much away this summer.

Romania are around 150-1 to win the tournament in the outright Euro 2016 betting odds, which reflects their chances, but don’t be surprised if they give France something to think about here. Razvan Rat is a familiar name in the back four and his experience and know-how is vital. Vlad Chiriches is another name which is known to Spurs fans.

They don’t score many goals, but they did hold Spain to a 2-2 draw in a warm up match that that’s a good sign that they can mix it with the big boys. They qualified behind Northern Ireland, but there are similarities between the two set ups with both sides working extremely hard to dig out results.

France vs Romania Predictions

France will not want to drop points in the opening match in front of their own fans. The Bleus have too much firepower in my opinion to lose, but they might have a frustrating first 45. My first France v Romania betting tip for the opening Euro 2016 fixture is for Draw/France on the HT/FT market. It can be backed at 3/1 with Bet Victor.

With Romania being so difficult to penetrate, I think we’ll see a low scoring game. Opening tournament games are rarely memorable and I think we’ll see fewer than three goals. My second France vs Romania prediction is for Under 2.5 goals. It can be backed at 3/4 with MarathonBet.

There are few goalscorer markets available yet, so nearer the time we’ll have a look at them. For a correct score prediction, 1-0 France looks the best option. My third France vs Romania betting tip is for France to win 1-0. It can be backed at 9/2 with Paddy Power.
