Will France Win Euro 2016?
France will hopst Euro 2016 this summer but can they win Euro 2016 on their own turf? Today we take a look at the squad and their strongest starting 11 for Euro 2016.
The big talk going into the Euro’s is around the home nation France and how they will get on in this summer’s European Championships. I believe they can definitely go on and win it and are worthy of being favourites for the tournament. They are around 3/1 with most bookies and I do think this is quite a short price considering they have to win a number of 90 minute games where anything can happen.
What are the best odds for France to win Euro 2016?
France’s Squad Depth for Euro 2016
Another well mentioned point about France is the complete strength in depth the team has. They have so many options in pretty much any position when they have a fully fit squad. Although a large chunk of the team is over the age of 30 and probably don’t have many tournaments left in them, it looks a good mix of experience and youth with a strong spine that revolves around the younger players.
The spine
GK- Hugo Lloris
The spurs keeper has the experience on his side at 29 years of age and will definitely have the leadership skills from the back to help the younger players.
Defender- Laurent Koscielny
Another older head in the team but definitely has the leadership is Koscielny, he will have a good mix of skills when paired up with Varane. However, the Madrid centre back will have already learnt plenty from Sergio Ramos.
Midfielder- Paul Pogba
Just one of the big names out of the France midfield but probably the biggest. There is a reason he is linked to the likes of Barcelona this summer and a good competition could see his price tag rocket up. Players who have shined this year like Payet and Kante will be important figures but Pogba is definitely the one to watch who will make stuff happen.
Forward- Antoine Griezmann
With Karim Benezma’s international suspension, all eyes are towards the Atletico forward. He’s had an impressive season in Spain and is definitely a candidate for the Euro 2016 top goalscorer. Similarly, Antony Martial may be one to watch but I’m sure Griezmann will shine above the rest like Pogba.
France’s starting XI for Euro 2016
Although Benezma will be a massive miss for the French as the first choice centre forward, the depth of this squad should cushion the blow for the hosts as they have so many options when picking the starting 11. Even youngsters like Coman show so much promise that they could step up to the big stage this summer.
Personally I would go with this starting XI if your sticking to France’s usual 4-3-3 formation. I think that this would be their strongest side but with so much choice in the squad the team could easily vary depending on who they are playing and the quality will still remain the same or similar.
Although it was tempting to put Payet on the left flank, I think martial provides a bit more width as Payet does like to get involved more centrally and be more creative. However, his crosses and set piece deliveries are usually spot on which could suit Gignac perfectly.
France Euro 2016 Betting Tips
To summarise, I do think France will do well this summer as expected by most and I do think they will reach the final. I suppose if you’re going to back them to go that far you may as well back them to win Euro 2016 with the home advantage that they have. The fans could definitely be a 12th man for the French. I do think that they are worth a punt to win it and the best price is 7/2 with Paddy Power.
A banker at a much shorter price that I found seems to be definitely worth a lump. France to win the group should be a straight forward warm up ready for the knock out rounds. Nothing is certain in an international competition like this but I can’t see anyone in the group stopping them when the biggest threat is Switzerland. The best odds for this are 2/5 with Sky Bet and could be worth considering to throw in a Euro 2016 group winners accumulator.
The player to watch in this side when looking for a goalscorer is definitely going to be Griezmann. At the age of 25 this could be his tournament in front of the home support and with the quality around him such as Pogba and Payet assisting him, he’s definitely worth a punt to be the tournament’s top goalscorer. He’s third favourite and is 12/1 with William Hill which seems a generous price.
