Belgium vs Italy Betting Tips and Predictions – Euro 2016

Belgium v Italy betting tips and predictions for today’s Euro 2016 fixture including a team to win and both teams to score betting tip.

Group D starts with a mouth-watering fixture between the two group favourites and two of the more fancied teams in this tournament, our betting preview includes three tips. Opening games are always difficult to call and this is no exception.

Belgium vs Italy Predictions

Coming into this tournament, the preconceptions are that Italy possess a decent back line, but are light in attack whilst Belgium could win the tournament if it was judged on individuals, but need to work as a team.

Belgium haven’t featured in this competition since 2000 and will fancy their chances of making it through to the latter stages. They possess copious amounts of firepower and with Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard, Divock Origi, Kevin De Bruyne and Christian Benteke all capable of finding the back of the net, they should be difficult to stop. At the other end, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen have had impressively solid seasons in the Spurs defence.

Being drawn in the ‘Group of Death’ isn’t ideal, but with the extra qualifying berths available, it should be a hurdle they can overcome. They started as narrow favourites to sit top of the group and the bookies fancy them to progress easily.

Marc Wilmots has been criticised for being unable to knit his team together and they started slowly in Brazil. They scored four goals in the group stage and didn’t look convincing against Algeria, Russia or South Korea. But their FIFA ranking suggests they should be progressing to the Semi-Finals at least here in France.

They claimed top spot in their qualifying group after losing to Wales early on, but many pundits are yet to be convinced.

Their results have been mixed coming into this – a 1-1 draw with Finland was followed by a narrow 3-2 win over Norway. Letting in goals appears to be an issue which needs resolving.

Italy appear to have the opposite problem. Their defence looks rock solid, but their offensive play needs work. It’s a weaker Italian team than previous tournaments with a couple of injuries to key midfielders rocking the boat.

They often arrive at these tournaments in disarray with every man and his dog writing off their chances early on, but they aren’t in bad form approaching Euro 2016.They’ve kept two clean sheets in a row, bouncing back from a thumping by Germany.

It’s Antonio Conte’s last tournament before taking over at Chelsea and he will be looking to guide his side out of the group stages untroubled. The Azzurri crashed out of World Cup 2014 in the group stage and need a better showing on the big stage here.

They lost to Belgium in a friendly in November and after taking the lead just three minutes in, they showed frailties at the back, eventually losing 3-1.

There were several high profile names to miss out on the squad as Andrea Pirlo and Sebastian Giovinco were overlooked due to their participation in the MLS. Mario Ballotelli was one of the joint top scorers at Euro 2012, but an incredibly poor domestic season has seen him overlooked. Pelle, Zaza, Insigne and Immobile have all been selected but it’s far from the strongest Italian frontline.

Betting Tips

I think Belgium have the strongest squad and possess far more game-changing players on the bench if required. Italy have come into this off the back of two clean sheets, but Finland and Scotland have less firepower than The Red Devils. My first Belgium vs Italy betting tip is for Belgium to win. They are 17/10 with Coral.

They have been struggling to keep teams out and Marc Wilmots will be looking to address that problem. They don’t struggle at the other end, hitting three past Norway recently. It was 3-1 when the teams met previously and we could see another pulsating encounter here. My second Belgium v Italy prediction is for Both Teams to Score? Yes. It can be backed at 11/10 with Ladbrokes.

Romelu Lukaku is the favourite to find the back of the net in the anytime goalscorer odds. Christian Benteke is second, but I can’t back the Liverpool man after his domestic disappointment. One man who lit up the Premier League (when fit) was Kevin De Bruyne and he comes alive in the biggest matches. I fancy the Manchester City man to find a way through here. My third Belgium vs Italy prediction is for Kevin De Bruyne to score anytime. He is 16/5 with Ladbrokes.
