Italy vs Republic of Ireland Betting Tips and Predictions

Italy v Republic of Ireland predictions and football betting tips for tonight’s Euro 2016 Group E match including an anytime goalscorer tip and the best odds for each bet.

Italy are through after back to back victories, but there’s work to do for the Republic of Ireland, who really need maximum points here to book their place in the next round. We’ve got the best bets for the final match in Group E.

Italy vs Rep of Ireland Predictions

Italy started at a rather large price of 18/1 for the tournament and were overlooked by many. Antonio Conte’s side were branded ‘weak’ in the final third and lacking creativity. Their defensive stability has never been in doubt and they are yet to concede a goal in France.

They looked a complete unit against Belgium, as they ran out 2-0 winners and left Marc Wilmot’s side shell-shocked. Two good goals sealed the victory and a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Sweden quickly followed. Italy are suddenly being spoken of as possible winners and they should be able to finish with a flourish here.

Both sides have been told they will not be able to train in Lille due to the poor state of the pitch, which needs urgent attention. Didier Deschamps was unhappy with the state of the pitch, but how much it affects the game tonight remains to be seen.

The Italians are enjoying some high intensity training this week, which is not necessarily the norm at these tournaments. It shows that Conte will not be taking this game lightly and is unlikely to accept less than nine points from nine. He’ll want his side to go into the knock-out rounds with plenty of momentum. The runners up of Group D wait in the next round, which is Spain following their surprise defeat to Croatia last night.

Conte is likely to make a few changes and Gianluigi Buffon is likely to miss out as he recovers from a fever. He missed Sunday’s training as he looks to shake off the virus in time for the match with Martin O’Neill’s side. Antonio Candreva has also been training separately due to an abductor tear and he may be rested. His importance to the team was evident in the game against Belgium and they will require his presence for the later stages of the competition.

Whilst Italy are in an enviable position, Republic of Ireland are desperate for the points. They require their first win over Italy in 22 years to secure their place in the next round of the competition. A point could net them third place in the group, but they are relying on their old friends Belgium beating Sweden. Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane will not want to be waiting on other results.

Group E is the final section to conclude and they will know what they require by the time they kick off. Wes Hoolahan got them off to the perfect start last week, making their dominance count with a fine strike. Unfortunately, Ciaran Clark put through his own net and it was all square. They feel as though they should have beaten a Swedish side who offered little coming forward. ROI competed well against Belgium, but individual mistakes and errors let the Red Devils in and they were heavily beaten in the end.

Will Conte resting a number of players help Ireland? Possibly, but they have to find their shooting boots quickly.  They need their strikers to start firing, with neither Shane Long, Jonathon Walters nor Robbie Keane finding the net yet. It will be a tough game and it’s not an ideal situation for the boys in green to find themselves in.

James McCarthy and Ciaran Clark both made errors in the game against Belgium, but it’s unlikely either will be dropped here. Clark in particular hasn’t had a season or tournament to remember, but it will only further dent his confidence if he finds himself on the bench.

Even the Italian B team should be pretty decent, but I don’t think the entire 11 will change. Conte may rest those players on yellow card with Candreva and Buffon also absent. It took 88 minutes for Italy to break through the Swedish resistance and I think they will find it hard to break Ireland down. My first Italy v Republic of Ireland prediction is for the match to end a draw at odds of 11/5 with bet365.

Italy do not need to win this match. They have scored three and conceded none so far. ROI have scored just a single goal, but they will need to keep it tight here or they are heading back to Dublin. My second Italy vs Republic of Ireland betting tip is for HT score to be 0-0. It is 6/4 with William Hill.

If ROI are going to nick a goal here, it might have to come from distance. Jeff Hendrick twice went close against Sweden and If he takes one of his chances here, he could make himself a hero. My third Italy vs Republic of Ireland prediction is for Jeff Hendrick to score anytime. He is 17/2 with Paddy Power.

OFFER: Get 6/1 for Ireland to win or draw against Italy when you open a new Paddy Power account.
