Iceland vs Hungary Betting Tips and Predictions – Euro 2016

Iceland v Hungary betting tips, predictions and preview for this weekend’s Euro 2016 Group F fixture including an anytime goalscorer tip.

Group F threw up some surprises on Tuesday with Hungary beating Austria and Iceland holding Portugal to a draw. The two sides who caused the shocks meet here and we’ve got the best bets for the match in our betting preview.

Iceland vs Hungary Predictions

Hungary were almost undone in the opening seconds of the game when David Alaba rattled the post, but Bernd Storck’s side survived the early onslaught and took all three points. Adam Szalai and Zoltan Stieber grabbed second half goals to take all three points and leave Austria with an uphill task. We knew Hungary were handy in defence and with veteran goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly keeping a clean sheet, they proved it.

It’s their first Euros appearance since 1972 and they are in a decent position to qualify for the knock-out stages. They missed chances to win the match more convincingly and they should give Iceland plenty to think about here.

Hungarian fans would have pencilled this match in as their most winnable, but Iceland defended tremendously well against Portugal. Pre-match Storck said it would be a ‘miracle’ if they got three points. They were helped by a sending off Aleksandar Dragovic in the second half and with Austria pushing for an equaliser, Hungary pounced.

They weren’t afraid of taking shots from distance during the match with Austria and Lars Lagerback will instruct his team to close down their opponents quickly. There were claims that Hungary were a little lucky, but they defended as a team and they hit Austria where it hurt.

Iceland can be pleased with their evening’s work as they held Portugal to a draw. Christiano Ronaldo and friends struggled to carve out real chances during the match as the Icelandic defence held firm. After Nani’s opener, they were soon pegged back by Birkir Bjarnason’s equaliser for the smallest country in the competition.

Ronaldo didn’t cover himself in glory post-match claiming ‘Iceland didn’t try anything’ and ‘They were just defend, defend, defend’. His side were unable to find a way round and have dropped points in Group F as a result. Iceland looked dangerous on the counter attack and credit goes to Lagerback for setting up his side effectively. They rode their luck somewhat in the second half with Ronaldo planting a header straight into the arms of the goalkeeper. He should have done better and Iceland looked relieved. They will need to set up differently here though as Hungary do not have the star quality of Portugal. With both sides defensively minded, it might be a while before the breakthrough is made in this one.

Iceland will be roared on by a passionate following. 10% of the country’s population is believed to have to travelled to France and they will create a wall of noise against Hungary. Both sides set up in similar style in the opening game and may be a little more adventurous in this encounter. Hungary are once again the outsiders, but it’s hard to see their defence being breached too often. I fancy this to end all square. My first Iceland vs Hungary betting tip is for the match to end in a Draw. It is 9/4 with Bet365.

I think we will see goals for both sides in this one. Hungary liked to shoot from distance whilst Iceland and Gylfi Sigurdsson looked dangerous coming forward. My second Iceland vs Hungary prediction is for Both Teams to Score? Yes. It is 21/20 with William Hill.

The aforementioned Sigurdsson could be the man to get on the scoresheet here. He went close against Portugal and is likely to be on free-kick duty. My third Iceland vs Hungary betting tip is for Gylfi Sigurdsson to score anytime. He is 13/4 with 888Sport.
