Hungary v Norway Betting Tips, Predictions and Preview
Hungary v Norway predictions and betting tips for this weekend’s Euro 2016 qualifying play-off second leg following Hungary’s 1-0 win in the first leg.
Hungary managed to stifle Norway’s attack to grab a precious away victory in the first leg in Oslo. Now Norway face a daunting trip to Budapest and need to overcome a one goal deficit if they are to retain any hopes of qualifying for the European Championships next year. We have the match preview as well as three of the best football betting tips for the second leg between Hungary and Norway.
Hungary v Norway Predictions
Despite managing 16 corners and 21 shots at goal in the match, Norway simply couldn’t find a way through a stubborn Hungary defence. The closest they came was when substitute Pal Andre Heland hit the bar after Hungary keeper Gabor Kiraly had parried from Alexander Soderlund’s shot.
Despite the hosts dominance throughout the match it was the visitors who took the lead through Laszlo Kleinheisler’s swerving effort on 26 minutes which deceived Orjan Nyland in the Norway goal and flew into the far corner.
Norway had a full 60 minutes to try and find a reply, but poor finishing and a lack of penetration cost them dear. The defeat will make Hungary favourites for the return leg in Budapest, and given their impressive defensive performance and ability to hit Norway on the break, it’s difficult to look past Bernd Storck’s men qualifying for Euro 2016 next summer on Sunday.
For all Norway’s possession and set piece opportunities, it was their lack of quality up front that really cost them on the night. Kiraly was outstanding in goal, bar one fumbled catch from a corner, and all of Storck’s defensive players will be getting big praise from the manager.
Norway will need to improve quickly if they are to find a way through in Budapest. They will need to work on their corner routines which were woefully mundane and they lacked any real inventiveness or guile.
Given Hungary’s 1-0 lead, it pretty easy to imagine that they will play the second leg in the same manner as the first. We predicted a low score in the first leg and I cannot see many goals being scored in the second either.
My first Hungaru v Norway prediction is again for there to be under 1.5 goals. Odds of 8/5 can be found with Ladbrokes.

Hungary simply wanted it more in the first leg, and if they carry their momentum through to the second leg in front of their home fans, they will surely qualify. Obviously with the goal advantage the hosts will be the favourites and I don’t think Norway have enough quality up front to really trouble Hungary.
My second betting tip for Hungary v Norway is for Hungary to qualify. Odds of 3/1 are available at Betfair if you open a new account (the normal odds are 1/3).
Given the defensive nature of Hungary’s performance on Thursday and their defence of a one goal lead, there is no real reason for them to approach the game in a different manner despite being in front of their own fans. Storck’s men will qualify with a stalemate, and I think that this is exactly what’s going to happen.
My final betting tip for the second leg between Hungary and Norway is for the match to finish 0-0. As always bet on no goalscorer instead of the 0-0 correct score in case an own goal separates the teams, the best odds are 13/2 with Betfred.
