Ones to watch at Euro 2016: Croatia’s Alen Halilovic

When Alen Halilovic first made his illustrious switch to the Nou Camp in 2014 as a mere 17-year-old youngster, the entire European footballing scene seemingly expected great things of the up and coming Croatian in the not too distant future…

Although the creative attacking midfielder hasn’t quite yet served to set the world alight whilst operating on loan for Sporting Gijon amid the Spanish top-flight however, Euro 2016 could nonetheless prove the ideal stage for this undoubtedly talented asset to finally make himself known in triumphant style.

Via his dangerously effective close-control skills in tight areas of the pitch, equally exciting range of technical prowess all across the park for his respective manager, as well as a relatively impressive keen eye for goal when played through into the final third – this is one player who could certainly serve to captivate at this summer’s tournament, regardless of where Croatia ultimately finish among the upcoming Euro 2016 proceedings.

Alen Halilovic is obviously considered somewhat of a growing asset among Ante Cacic first choice starting XI. Alongside the likes of Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic and both Mateo Kovacic and Luka Modric of Real Madrid, Croatia have every reason to remain confident ahead of Euro 2016 with such a talented array of options on board.

Whilst Croatia’s ‘golden generation’ of stars arguably peaked under the composed management style of Slaven Bilic just a few short seasons ago, this current batch of players are seemingly more than capable of proceeding past the group-stages at Euro 2016 this summer – especially with rapidly emerging talents such as Alen Halilovic heavily involved among the first team action.

So then, whilst the 19-year-old attacking midfielder isn’t guaranteed to start every game at Euro 2016 with any relevant stretch of the imagination for Croatia, the future nonetheless looks very bright for Ante Cacic’s side in light of just how far Barcelona’s on-loan star has genuinely developed his overall game in recent seasons.
