Romania vs Albania Betting Tips and Predictions

Romania vs Albania betting tips and predictions for the final Group A Euro 2016 match for these two sides, can either of them qualify for the last 16?

In arguably the least glamorous game at the Euro 2016, Romania take on Albania in a crucial tie from Group A. The match can be found on BBC Four at 8pm on Sunday and here are our match predictions and betting tips.

Romania vs Albania Predictions

Both of these sides know a draw is unlikely to be enough to see them qualify for the knockout stages of the competition, either by virtue of a second place finish or even as one of the top four third placed teams. With these facts in mind, we could potentially be in for an entertaining game, but most probably, we'll be switching over to the France vs Switzerland tie on BBC One!

Romania vs Albania

For Romania, they can definitely count themselves unlucky to not be at least be a point better off after falling foul to Dimitri Payet's last minute worldie in the opening match of the tournament. Nevertheless, they were certainly under the cosh for long periods in their 1-1 draw against Switzerland a few days ago, so I would say their league position reads just about fair on the balance of the two games.

The issue with Romania is that whilst being an incredibly well-drilled and defensively sound unit, they really lack any kind of cutting edge going forward. During Euro 2016 qualifying they only conceded two goals in the whole process, which was the best record of any other team. The flip side to this is they only managed a mere 11 goals at the other end of the pitch which was the joint second worst record behind – yes, you've guessed it – Albania.

Speaking of which, the Albanians have performed admirably so far in the tournament but unsurprisingly find themselves rooted to the bottom of the table with no points. Despite a positive showing against Switzerland, their chances weren't helped by a particularly harsh red card, and conceding two goals in second half injury time to the French was every bit as heart breaking as it sounds. Yet regardless of these two results, Albania could yet force themselves into contention for the knockout stages with a win over Romania this Sunday.

Heading into the match and the bookies are siding with Romania and they currently find themselves as heavy 6/5 favourites. Albania are trading as 5/2 underdogs with most bookmakers, with the draw is fairly priced at 13/5.

Had this match been during qualification, I would have backed a low-scoring draw without much hesitation. As I've previously mentioned, both of these sides were the two lowest scorers in qualifying and only conceded seven goals between them during this period as well. However, due to the crucial nature of the tie I am going to have to side with the Romanians for my first Romania vs Albania prediction. Therefore, back a Romania win at 6/5 with Sky Bet.

Moving over to the goalscoring market for my next Romania vs Albania betting tip and Romanian playmaker Bogdan Stancu has scored both his side's goals at the tournament so far – albeit from the penalty spot – and looks fairly decent value for money at 6/1 with Ladbrokes to score the opening goal of the match. Although there is an element of risk with these bet types, there's every chance the first goal is likely to be the only goal, so it's certainly worth a punt.

Finally, we're going to go with a correct score prediction for Romania vs Albania in Group A this weekend, with a correct score grouping bet, where a final result of 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 in favour of Romania will return odds of 2/1. Four of the Romanians five wins in qualifying all finished in this bracket, and judging by the fact we've yet to see a team score three goals in the tournament in the opening 19 games up to writing this article, I would be surprised if this match broke that mould.
