Germany vs Poland Betting Tips and Predictions – Euro 2016

Germany vs Poland betting tips and predictions for the Group C fixture on Thursday 16th June with the best odds for the betting tips in our preview.

In what looks like the crunch game in Group C, Germany and Poland go head to head on Thursday in the Stade de France. The match is live on ITV at 8pm and here are our match predictions and betting tips ahead of the clash.

Germany vs Poland Predictions

Rather unsurprisingly, the Germans started yet another big tournament with a win after beating Ukraine 2-0 on Sunday night. Despite looking a comfortable scoreline on paper, Joachim Lowe’s side certainly rode their luck on occasions, and but for the ever-dependable Manuel Neuer, could have easily conceded at least twice in an exciting first half.

Nevertheless, Germany dominated possession for most of the game and should have put the match to bed a lot earlier than Bastian Schweinsteiger’s injury time winner. The world champions created lots of openings, but lacked a real focal point up front as Thomas Muller was out on the wing and Mario Gotze was preferred to Mario Gomez up top. The latter was particularly ineffective – touching the ball only ten times in the first half – and barely had a sniff of goal all game.

Poland head into the match buoyed from an opening win against Northern Ireland earlier on the same day. The Poles looked a totally different class from their British opponents but were frustrated for long periods by a dogged Northern Irish defence. However, despite being able to restrict Robert Lewandowski to scraps for most of the match, it was his strike partner Arkadiusz Milik that finished a well-worked move early in the second half.

Heading into their match against Germany and Poland will certainly be a lot more prepared than most after sharing a qualifying group with their opponents for the last couple of years. Although the Germans pipped them to the top spot in the group by a mere point, but both sides did come out winners in their home ties with Poland victorious 2-0 in Warsaw, and Germany 3-1 in the reverse fixture towards the end of the campaign.

Odds for the clash have Germany as clear favourites in the eyes of the bookies and they can be backed at a best price of 3/5. Poland are priced way out at 11/2, with the draw available at 10/3.

As I’ve already mentioned, Germany do tend to turn up when it comes to the big games and I would be surprised if they don’t come out on top in this match on Thursday for my Euro 2016 prediction. However, they did play very poorly in several friendlies leading up to the completion and also scored nine goals less than Poland in qualifying. Unlike teams of old, this German side can be opened up, and as we saw with the Ukraine, often rely on Manuel Neuer to bail them out. Against a Polish side that scored three times against them in qualifying, I can’t see Germany keeping a clean sheet in this one. Therefore, my first Germany vs Poland prediction is for Germany win and both teams to score at 21/10 with Sky Bet.

Sticking on a similar theme, and without wishing to put all my eggs in one basket, I’m going to suggest backing an over 2.5 goals outcome as well as the previous betting tip. As international games go, this match already looks a decent contender in the market, and with both sides winning their opening games, they should both be able to play with a lot more freedom in the final third of the pitch. With this in mind, my second Germany vs Poland betting tip is over 2.5 goals in the match at 4/5 with bet365.

Moving over to the goalscoring market and I will be shocked if Mario Gotze keeps his place after his hard-working, yet toothless performance against Ukraine. Therefore, I can see Mario Gomez getting the nod up front, and the Besiktas forward heads into the tournament in outstanding goalscoring form. Gomez notched 28 goals for the Turkish side this year, as well as seven in his final six matches of the season. So my final Germany vs Poland prediction is for Gomez to score the opening goal of the match at 9/2 with Betfred’s DD/HH promotion. Should he not start the match, you’ll most likely get your stake back anyway so it’s hardly the riskiest of bets to chance your arm at.
