Austria vs Poland Betting Tips

These two sides are the favourites to qualify for Euro 2020, but an early defeat here would put them on the backfoot so we’re predicting a tight affair in Vienna. As always, Poland will have one of the best strikers in Europe leading their line and Robert Lewandowski will want to put a poor World Cup and Nations League behind him. He hasn’t scored for his country in their last eight matches now but with generous odds of 15/8 at Paddy Power available for him to score here, Thursday could be the time when he breaks that duck. Austria and West Ham forward Marko Arnautovic is the favourite at 13/8 to score in this game but given that we are predicting Poland to avoid defeat here, the odds for Lewandowski do appeal even though he has struggled for goals for his country. Domestically, Lewandowski has been in fantastic form in helping Bayern Munich get back to the top of the Bundesliga table, scoring five in his last three matches.

Given we are predicting a draw in this Austria v Poland match, we can also look to bet on a correct score. Austria had an average campaign in the Nations League, winning two, drawing one and losing to eventual group winners Bosnia-Herzegovina. They don’t tend to score many goals and failing to score in both ties against Bosnia ultimately cost them top spot. We’re expecting a draw here and the 1-1 correct score looks a good bet at 5/1 with Ladbrokes. Both sides would probably be happy with a point in this opening tie.

The hosts had a decent World Cup qualifying campaign but ultimately missed out on a place in Russia after finishing fourth in their group. They only picked up four points from their last four away matches and that is what cost them. On home soil they only lost once to Republic of Ireland and are normally good on their own turf, the last three games they have played in Austria they have kept clean sheets.

Poland had a disastrous World Cup and Nations League which seen them eliminated after the group stage in Russia then relegated from their Nations League section. Euro 2020 qualifying is a new leaf and they’ll be expected to qualify from a relatively weak group containing the likes of Latvia, Israel and Macedonia. Lewandowski needs to re-find his form for his country and they’ll be hoping that Arkadiusz Milik can bring his AC Milan form into the national team. A draw won’t be a bad result for the Poles here and that is our prediction.
