Exeter vs Carlisle betting tips and predictions for the second leg of the League Two play-off semi-final on Thursday evening. See our football tipsters’ preview below.
These sides played out another thriller on Sunday evening as the two sides drew 3-3. They meet again at St James’ Park with both sides hoping to book their place at Wembley.
Exeter’s home form has been far from exemplary this season with just eight victories to their name in the South West. Paul Tisdale was left a little disappointed that his side couldn’t bring an advantage into the second leg but is adamant his side won’t be looking back and reflecting on what could have been. The Grecian’s went 3-1 up but weren’t able to hold onto the advantage with a second half Shaun Miller goal levelling matters. The wrongly disallowed Ollie Watkins may rankle with Tisdale and the Exeter players but they must collectively remove it from their thoughts.
The game is sold out and there should be an electric atmosphere with many of the fans hoping for another pulsating 90 minutes of football. Carlisle have plenty of firepower in their squad and Curle will be glad to see Shaun Miller back on the scoresheet. The former Morecambe man has had a patchy season and hasn’t been able to rekindle his early season form.
With so much at stake, another goal fest is expected here. Our first Exeter vs Carlisle betting prediction is Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score? Yes at 20/23 with Coral.
Considering their uncharacteristically poor start to the season, it would be a fairytale of sorts if Exeter were to be promoted. Injuries are starting to ease and they should be able to finish this one off. Our second Exeter vs Carlisle betting tip is Exeter Win & Over 1.5 Goals at 13/10 with Betfair.
David Wheeler is the favourite in the goal-scoring market but I’m opting for the sought-after Ollie Watkins here. His form has dipped but he looked sharp on Sunday and with many Championship clubs rumoured to be tracking his progress, this is his chance to impress. Our third Exeter vs Carlisle prediction is for Ollie Watkins to score anytime at 6/4 with Ladbrokes.
Matt Oakley has only just returned from injury but may not be fit enough to play any part here. Craig Woodman limped off on Sunday and will be assessed prior to this tie.
Striker Jabo Ibehre could make a quick recovery and feature on Thursday evening. The in-form striker missed the game on Sunday through injury.
There are always goals when these two sides meet. The 3-3 draw on Sunday followed hot on the heels of a 3-2 Carlisle victory and it was the same score-line when the sides met at Brunton Park earlier in the season.
The hosts beat Carlisle here in 2014 but have been unable to overcome the Cumbrians in their last two visits.
Unsurprisingly Exeter have been made the favourites for this tie and can be backed at around 21/20. Carlisle can be backed at around 13/5 for victory with the draw priced around 5/2 by the majority of bookmakers.
