Fantasy Football tips

The final gameweek of the season is here and it gives everybody one last chance to get to the top of their mini-league, or hold onto top spot if you are leading. Here’s our look at some one-week options for Gameweek 38+

Following the advice for who should be selected using your free transfer/transfers, you will also see three potential captains selected

Goalkeepers and Defenders Tips

Not the most glamourous of final transfers but likely to score well is James Tarkowski (5.4m). The Burnley defender has two attacking returns since the restart and four clean sheets in his last seven. Burnley end their campaign against Brighton.

Serge Aurier (5.1m) comes up against a Crystal Palace side on a run of seven consecutive defeats and struggling to score. He has scored once and assisted seven times in the league this season. It could be a strong finish for the Ivorian international.

Midfielders Tips

Raheem Sterling (12.0m) has expressed his desire to hit 20 league goals this season and is just one goal from achieving that target. Manchester City face relegated-Norwich in their final fixture. The biggest question mark against Sterling’s name is game time.

One Manchester City asset who should be guaranteed a start is David Silva (7.5m). The City legend will be departing at the end of the season after a decade at the club and will have one final opportunity to play in the Premier League. Surely Guardiola will hand the Spaniard a start.

Heung Min Son (9.7m) has two goals and two assists in his last three fixtures and crucially still has something to play for. Tottenham need to better Wolves’ result in order to confirm a Europa league spot and avoid rivals Arsenal potentially stealing the final spot with an FA Cup win. Son could score well against a poor Crystal Palace side.

Christian Pulisic (7.4m) has been in excellent form since the restart and continued that run with a goal and an assist against Liverpool. The American international has now scored nine league goals and assisted eight in an injury-hit debut campaign. Wolves aren’t the easiest opponents on paper but with something still to play for, Pulisic could be a good selection.

Aston Villa’s star of the season has undoubtedly been captain, Jack Grealish. However, if Aston Villa do stay up, they will owe Trézeguét (5.2m) a big thank you. The Egyptian has scored six league goals with half of them coming in the last three games. A crunch match against West Ham could see him add to that tally.

Forwards Tips

Kane Champions League final

It is no secret that Harry Kane (10.9m) is obsessed with goals. The England international has scored a brace in each of his last two games to take him to 17 for the season. He won’t win the golden boot this season but another 20-goal Premier League season is likely in his sights.

Troy Deeney (6.2m) is never the fashionable option but has nevertheless racked up nine league goals and two assisted for a struggling side. Watford are desperate for points against Arsenal and will likely need to score. Deeney’s penalty duties and leadership may be called upon once again.

FPL Gameweek 38+ Captains Picks

There are two particularly eye-catching fixtures for captaincy this week. Manchester City’s home fixture with Norwich will undoubtedly attract interest but Tottenham’s trip to Selhurst Park is also of interest.

Option 1 – Harry Kane (10.9m) vs Crystal Palace

Tottenham have not had a good season by any stretch. They are sat in seventh, needing to better Wolves’ result to guarantee a Europa League spot, or else risk losing it to Arsenal.

Harry Kane hasn’t hit the heights of his best campaigns in an injury-hit season but has still managed 17 league goals so far. The England international has scored back-to-back braces to take him within touching distance of the 20 goal mark. Kane will require a final day hat-trick if he is to reach that tally but that is far from beyond him.

Crystal Palace have lost seven games on the bounce, failing to score in six of those. They have very little to play for and lost 4-0 in the reverse fixture with Spurs. Whether Kane manages three is questionable but he is surely a good bet to get on the scoresheet at the very least.

Option 2 – Raheem Sterling (12.0m) vs Norwich

Another player with 20 Premier League goals in his sights is Raheem Sterling. The Manchester City winger has scored eight goals since the restart, taking him to 19 league goals, his best tally yet.  Sterling has managed five double-digit hauls since the restart, adding to his four previous ones.

His opponents are Norwich who have already been confirmed as relegated and have lost every game since the restart. The Canaries may have recorded an unlikely 3-2 victory over Manchester City back in September but the likelihood of that repeating itself is close to zero. Manchester City should rack up the goals and if he is on the pitch, Sterling will almost certainly get in on the points.

If he is on the pitch is the biggest question mark against his name. Guardiola’s rotation policy has been in full swing since the restart, especially since Manchester City still have the Champions League to come. Sterling will surely get at least 20 minutes and that could well be enough to secure a solid haul.

Option 3 – David Silva (7.5m) vs Watford

Perhaps the most likely Manchester City attacking option to start is David Silva. The Spanish playmaker is set to leave Man City after ten years and will surely play a large part in his final Premier League game.

David Silva’s form has been impressive whenever he has started since the restart. He has three goals and three assists in four Premier League starts in June and July, including a total of 30 points against Newcastle and Bournemouth.

Manchester City often change their penalty taker with Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, and Riyad Mahrez all having stepped up this season. David Silva has taken penalties in the past and may just be handed any spot-kicks with nothing on the line.

Recommended Captain for Gameweek 38+

It’s a difficult call for the final captaincy of the season but we’re opting for departing City legend, David Silva.
