FanTeam €1,000,000 Premier League Fantasy Football League: First Draft Team

Premier League predictions

With the season start still a couple of weeks away, now is the time we have started tinkering with our Fantasy Football team for Gameweek 1 of the FanTeam €1,000,000 league this season.

There is still time for this team to change quite significantly between now and Gameweek 1, but there is a spine of the team I want to keep together and that includes the captaincy of Liverpool’s Sadio Mane, who starts his season against newly-promoted Leeds United at Anfield.

It is always important to get off to a good start in Fantasy Football, and it is even more important when there is a €200,000 top prize up for grabs thanks to the FanTeam FPL cash game this season.

Your £20 free bet must be wagered one time at odds of 2.0 (1/1) or higher before it becomes cash. If your first £20 bet wins, you have to bet £20 again at odds of 2.0 (1/1) or higher to turn the £20 bonus money into cash. But you do win cash on your first bet - it’s just the £20 bonus that’s locked until you bet £20 again at minimum odds of 2.0 (1/1) or higher.

As things stand, I am looking to keep hold of this starting 11 for the first few weeks of the season although there is room for Manchester United and Manchester City players to be added to the team early on.

Goalkeepers

I always like to have the option to rotate my goalkeepers so barring any injuries, I’ll start the campaign with Alex McCarthy (Southampton) and Jordan Pickford (Everton) as the two options. Southampton have favourable first five fixtures, starting with Crystal Palace away on GW1.

Saints’ other three opening matches are Tottenham at home, Burnley away and West Brom at home.

Everton start with Tottenham away but from there, they play West Brom at home, Crystal Palace away and Brighton at home.

FanTeam Goalkeeper tips

Gameweek 1: McCarthy vs Crystal Palace (A)

Gameweek 2: Pickford vs West Brom (H)

Gameweek 3: McCarthy vs Burnley (A)

Gameweek 4: McCarthy vs West Brom (H)

Gameweek 5: Pickford vs Brighton (H)

Defenders

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) will be a player that stays in most people’s Fantasy Football team for most of the season barring any injuries, and that is no different here. He was one of the most important players in the game last season and with his assists and goal threat from free-kicks, he is a must-have again this term, even with his 7.5m price tag.

I’m aiming to play a budget defence around Trent, for the start of the season at least, and one interesting name that is popping up in a lot of people’s FPL first drafts is Ruben Vinagre of Wolves. The defender has a budget 4.5m price tag and when you compare that to the other Wolves defenders such as Coady and Boly (both 5.0m) it makes sense to try and save that 0.5m here. 13 clean sheets for Wolves last season means I’m keen to get one of their backline into my team.

With Everton’s favourable fixtures after GW1, I’m hoping Mason Holgate will be back in the starting line-up in-time for then. He is another 4.5m option and based on last season, the first choice to start alongside Michael Keane in the Everton defence.

FanTeam defenders tips

For now, the bench is filled by Charlie Taylor (Burnley) who doesn’t have a game in Gameweek 1, and another popular budget option in Nathan Ferguson (Crystal Palace) who has been the talk of FPL Twitter given his current likelihood to start, if he gets over his injury.

Other options in defence include Leeds’ Stuart Dallas, who plays Fulham and Sheffield United in Gameweek’s 2 and 3.

Midfielders

Into midfield and it is another Liverpool man who I’ll look to keep long term in the team, Sadio Mane (Liverpool). It is always a toss-up between him and Mo Salah here and I prefer Mane as a long term option, barring any goalscoring droughts. Both Bruno Fernandes and Kevin De Bruyne are not involved in Gameweek 1 so I am taking a bit of a punt on both Heung Min Son (Tottenham) and Hakim Ziyech (Chelsea).

Son has a nice opening fixture at home to Everton before playing Southampton (A), Newcastle (H) and West Ham (H) in four of their first five fixtures.

I’m not 100% set on Ziyech as one of the starting midfielders yet but he could be worth the gamble, especially if he starts performing well in pre-season. That is certainly one to watch but after GW1, Mason Greenwood could take that place at the same price of 8.5m.

The fourth starting midfielder is currently Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace). Palace have a reasonable start at home to Southampton and even though Zaha always looks a good option for Fantasy Football, he only seems to collect points in spurts so hopefully, I get lucky with him here. There is still too of course, the chance that Zaha might not even be at Crystal Palace come September 12th.

Fan Team midfielder picks

The fifth midfielder in the team and one to make up the numbers, for the time being, is Yves Bissouma (Brighton).

Forwards

At the time of writing, I’m looking to attack the first few Gameweeks with three strikers starting. Raul Jiminez (Wolves) should guarantee goals and points if he continues his form from last season and with matches against Sheffield United, Fulham, West Ham and Leeds in their first five games, Wolves will expect a good start to the season.

New Chelsea signing Timo Werner will be a popular choice for FPL players and he is given a chance in my starting 11 although there will be the option to replace him with Anthony Martial if required. However, Chelsea have a good run of early fixtures including matches against Brighton, West Brom, Crystal Palace and Southampton in the first 5 gameweeks so I’m keen to keep Werner onside in the early weeks of Fantasy Football 2020/21.

The third striker in the team is Aleksander Mitrovic (Fulham) who was the top goalscorer in the Championship last season and has scored goals at Premier League level before. A home game against Arsenal in GW1 is not the worst opening fixture and things get easier from there, with his next six fixtures looking good for goals. They include home matches against Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and West Brom. The away matches in that run are Leeds, Wolves & Sheffield United.

FPL Captains Pick Gameweek 1

I’m keen to keep Liverpool players on-side in their opening match against Leeds and so Sadio Mane is my captain choice for Gameweek 1.

Son is the vice-captain currently and he wouldn’t be a bad choice for captain with Tottenham starting off the season at home to Everton. Timo Werner is more of a gamble but if he hits the ground running in pre-season, there is nothing to say he won’t return points in his opening week of Premier League Fantasy Football.
