Crystal Palace vs Manchester City betting tips, predictions and preview for Sunday afternoon’s Premier League fixture at Selhurst Park. City head to the capital again following their Champions League quarter-final first leg defeat at the hands of Spurs, with Crystal Palace looking to beat Pep Guardiola’s side for a second time this season.
City fans won’t need reminding of the fact that their sole Premier League home defeat came against this opposition.
Andros Townsend scored a goal of the season contender that afternoon as The Eagles put three past the Premier League champions.
The pressure is off Palace on Sunday afternoon, with relegation no longer a likely prospect.
Wednesday night’s European contest between Tottenham and Manchester City was a timely reminder that the Sheikh Mansour’s star-studded outfit are far from infallible. Spurs stifled the visitors that night – something we can expect Palace to try and emulate here.
Nothing but a win will do for the away side and I expect them to get the three points they need, although possibly not without a scare or two. Palace, while not the best side, are more than capable of causing problems in the final third and have scored in four of their last five outings. Ironically, the only time they’ve failed to bulge the net in recent weeks was against City’s most recent scourge.
City have the opportunity to go a point clear of Liverpool before The Reds’ match against Chelsea later in the day, and they’ll certainly be looking to take it. I’ve considered the win and both teams to score market here and am inclined to play, with a City victory and both sides registering priced about the 2/1 mark.
There is a very strong argument for Raheem Sterling to be crowned Premier League PFA Player of the Year this season, as evidenced by the fact he is currently second in the betting behind favourite Virgil van Dijk. Sterling has had another fine campaign and seemingly gone up another notch for both club and country – no mean feat considering his impressive performances last season.
The 24-year-old has notched four goals for England in just two outings in 2019 and paired his brilliant international displays with a level of consistent excellence in a City shirt. Sterling is his side’s second top scorer in all competitions – only Sergio Aguero has more goals – and you’d like to think there will be a few more contributions to come as we approach the final furlong.
As already mentioned, you’d be a fool not to acknowledge the attacking threat Palace pose with the likes of Wilfried Zaha in their front line. Sure, Roy Hodgson’s men aren’t the most fashionable of Premier League teams but they can be a match for the division’s elite on their day, as they proved at the Etihad in December.
Both teams to score looks a near certainty here in my view, but I’m anticipating that the visitors will pull this one out of the fire. A 1-3 scoreline rings true to me, and that’s a 12/1 shot with numerous firms including Jetbull.
