Sheffield Wednesday vs Sheffield United Predictions and Betting Tips: Championship Preview

Sheffield Wednesday betting tips

Sheffield Wednesday vs Sheffield United predictions and betting tips for this Monday evening Steel City derby on March 4th with an anytime goalscorer tip and goals prediction included.

The Steel City derby takes place tonight and it’s a rarity for both sides to enter this game in decent form. Steve Bruce has made the Owls much tougher to beat, and he’ll be hoping to endear himself to the Hillsborough faithful by beating their promotion-chasing rivals. This could result in the second stalemate of the campaign between the pair. See our Sheffield Wednesday vs Sheffield United predictions below.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Sheffield United Preview

This game ended goalless at the beginning of November with David McGoldrick spurning the opportunity from the spot. Since that drab encounter, Sheffield Wednesday have dispensed of Jos Luhukay, and replaced with him with the experience of Steve Bruce. The Geordie didn’t enter the dugout immediately, but since his arrival, results have picked up, and they’ve comfortably steered themselves clear of any danger. The Owls haven’t been beaten since January 12th, and some of their fans are even dreaming of a late play-off charge! They’ve conceded just three times in seven games and clocked up another clean sheet in midweek against a handy Brentford side.

The Blades are looking to boost their automatic play-off credentials with three points here, but this won’t be easy for Chris Wilder’s side. They come off the back of a hard-fought 1-0 win over West Brom, and they have had an extra couple of days rest to prepare for this game. They’ve only won one of their last four matches on the road, and although they have a classy squad, they should find this Sheffield Wednesday defence fairly obstinate. Hopefully, it’s more entertaining than their meeting earlier in the campaign, but the result could be remarkably similar. Draw is the first our Sheff Wed vs Sheff United predictions today.

Total Goals Prediction

Neither side will want lose this game for obvious reasons, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see both sides set up reasonably conservatively. Bruce’s tactics should help thwart the Blades’ marauding defenders, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see another low-scoring contest. The last two ties have ended goalless, and although we might see a couple of goals in this one, Under 2.5 Goals looks the pick. The bookies are edging towards a low-scoring contest and this odds-on pick is the second of our Sheffield Wednesday vs Sheffield United predictions.

Anytime Goalscorer Predictions

Whilst Gary Madine would love to score against his former employers, he isn’t likely to start this game, so I’m going to look elsewhere. Steve Bruce seems to have got the best out of Stephen Fletcher in recent weeks, and the experienced frontman has been in free-scoring form lately. The Scot has netted four times since mid-January, and each of that quartet of strikes have come at Hillsborough. He would love to repeat the trick in the Steel City Derby. Stephen Fletcher is the third of our Sheffield Wednesday vs Sheffield United predictions for this intense Monday night clash.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Sheffield United Betting Preview

Given their league position, it is understandable that Sheffield United begin the day as favourites and they can be backed at around 11/10. It is 5/2 for the game to end all-square for the third consecutive time, whilst the hosts are available at a very reasonable 13/5.

It is 4/5 for Both Teams to Score? Yes in this encounter, whilst it is 10/11 for either side to draw a blank. The traders aren’t neccessarily expecting goals with 4/5 for Under 2.5 Goals in this Steel City Derby.

Billy Sharp is one of the most prolific strikers in the Championship, and he is 9/2 to break the deadlock. He is closely followed by David McGoldrick, who will be determined to make amends for his penalty miss earlier in the campaign. Gary Madine is 6/1 whilst our anytime goalscorer prediction, Stephen Fletcher is priced at 13/2 to score the first.
