Southend vs Portsmouth Predictions

Not many sides have a good record at Roots Hall, and Portsmouth were defeated on their last trip to Essex. The hosts generally play better in front of their own fans, but they’ve been below-par here in recent weeks. Chris Powell’s men have lost five of their last six here and have been defeated nine times overall at this ground. Rochdale, Plymouth, Luton and Bristol Rovers have all left with the points recently and Portsmouth will be confident of doing the same. Pompey are winless since New Years Day and they are now nine points behind leaders, Luton. They have won just one of their last six away matches, although some of their recent games on the road have been very tough. They haven’t coped sufficiently with the loss of loanee Ben Thompson, who returned to Millwall and they haven’t quite found the right balance in the final third. Kenny Jackett admitted that his side need a ‘sprint finish’ and he’s set a target of 85 points for his side, but they might just have to settle for one here. The visitors have drawn their last two games in League One and there are signs that they slowly rediscovering their rhythm, but Southend may have just enough to keep that at bay. The draw is the first of our League One betting tips for this weekend.

Southend vs Portsmouth Both Teams to Score Predictions

Neither of these two sides have been defending well enough lately. Portsmouth couldn’t do much about Graham Carey’s strike last weekend, but they don’t keep many clean sheets on the road. They’re last away clean sheet came on November 3rd and they’ve only failed to net in three of their away matches this campaign. Southend usually find the net at Roots Hall and they’ve only failed to score against Luton and Oxford so far this season. All of this points towards BTTS and it’s a bet that would have landed during their last clash at Roots Hall. Both Teams to Score? Yes has landed in six of Pompey’s last seven League One games and it looks a good bet once again here. It is the second of our Southend vs Portsmouth predictions for Saturday lunchtime.

Southend vs Portsmouth Anytime Goalscorer Betting Tips

There are lots of players on the pitch who are natural goalscorers and the anytime goalscorer market looks suitably competitive. Stephen Humphrys has started his loan spell at Southend with flying colours and the 21-year old now has three goals in Southend colours. He’s netted eight overall this season if you include his six-month spell at Scunthorpe and he has taken to League One life. He is searching for his first home goal after netting all three of his goals away from Roots Hall and this could be his opportunity. Stephen Humphrys to score anytime is the third of our Southend vs Portsmouth predictions.

Southend vs Portsmouth Match Betting Preview

Given their position in the table, it’s no surprise to see Pompey short in the match odds. Kenny Jackett’s men are priced at around Evens to collect all three points and they will in many people’s weekend accumulators. Southend are outsiders at 3/1 whilst it is 12/5 for the game to end in a stalemate.

The traders aren’t expecting many goals in this game and it’s 8/11 for Under 2.5 Goals in this tie. There have been at least three goals in three of Portsmouth’s last four League One matches and it’s 11/10 for Over 2.5 Goals to land again here.

Omar Bogle has started well at Fratton Park and he’ll be keen to add another goal to his tally. He’s 11/2 to grab the first in this game. Oliver Hawkins is 5/1 to break the deadlock whilst Brett Pittman, who is likely to start on the bench is also priced at 5/1. Simon Cox is always a threat and he’s 6/1 to score the opener in this game.
