Top Six Finish Prediction

Barnsley have kept the nucleus of their squad which was relegated from the Championship. They weren’t helped by selling their top players and fans will be pleased to see the likes of Tom Bradshaw, George Moncur and Brad Potts remain at the club [at the time of writing]. New boss Daniel Stendel is a bit of an unknown quantity and these gambles can sometimes pay off. He is recognised as an attack-minded manager who works hard on fitness and that bodes well for an energy-sapping League One campaign. Kieffer Moore was exceptional at this level for Rotherham and should be able to fire the Tykes to a top six finish. Cameron McGeehan will be hoping for an injury-free campaign and the signing of Kenny Dougall does at least address the issue of having no defensive midfielders at the club. Barnsley should have enough to pick up a play-off place. They are Evens with William Hill to finish in the top six and you can get ready for the new season with a £30 free bet.

Top Half Finish Prediction

The bookies continually underestimate Burton but the Brewers are an extremely well-run club who should be able to consolidate following relegation. Nigel Clough remains with the club and they’ve kept hold of a number of key players plus have the fit-again Liam Boyce to help fire them up the division. It may take a couple of season to rebuild but they should challenge for the play-offs and will be tough to beat at the Pirelli. They’ve lost Hope Akpan and Tom Flanagan but they have dipped into the Scottish market in a bid to strengthen their squad. The likes of John Brayford and Jake Buxton know this level inside-out and should help their cause. One or two more signings are likely to arrive before the window shuts. Burton should be able to cement a top half finish and they are available at 11/10 with William Hill.

Bottom Half Finish Prediction

Scunthorpe have not enjoyed the best pre-season and they’ve struggled with recruitment. Fans are understandably getting worried about the paper-thin playing squad which has seen the likes of Tom Hopper, Murray Wallace, Neal Bishop and Hakeeb Adelukun leave Lincolnshire this summer. Connor Townsend is the latest player to have agreed a move away from the club and Nick Daws is going to struggle to replace some of the departed stars. Stephen Humphrys arrives from Fulham and did score a couple of goals for Rochdale last season whilst James Horsfield’s addition from NAC Breda is an interesting addition to the side. Scunny have the makings of a decent squad but they don’t appear to have adequately replaced some of their outgoing stars. They will need to get the best out of Duane Holmes this season if they are to recapture their play-off form but it might be difficult in an extremely competitive division. They are 13/8 to finish in the bottom half with Bet Victor and you can use their £40 free bet on any of our ante-post betting tips.

Relegation Prediction

Wycombe and Accrington are the two favourites in this market but it’s always dangerous to write off teams with an unbeatable spirit and I’d prefer to look elsewhere. Walsall had a poor second half to the season and don’t look much stronger this time around. Dean Keates is popular with the fans but his intentions are generally defensive and he will be aiming to keep things tight. Ehrun Oztumer has departed and they’ve been trialling Florent Cuvelier. The midfielder is a wonderful talent but rarely plays due to injury and they should be looking at players with a better fitness record. Andy Cook and Zeli Ismail are nice additions to the side but whether it will be enough remains to be seen. They have a squad of 21 and have already lost defender Korey Roberts to an injury. Joe Edwards’ return is a tick in the box but they could struggle in the final third and Keates may need to dig deep to keep them in the third tier. Bet365 are offering 2/1 to Walsall to be relegated from League One this season and you can get £100 in free bet credits which can be used to place ante-post bets ahead of the new season getting underway.

Top Goalscorer Prediction

We’ve already mentioned him – Kieffer Moore. The beanpole striker scored 13 times for Rotherham during a 22-game spell and he should get plenty of service in this young Barnsley side. The former Ipswich man gets into the positions and has a fantastic ariel prowess which will help him find the net on a regular basis. He scored four times in the Championship last season but only played 1474 minutes in a struggling side and back down at League One level, you should get a good run for your money backing the 25-year old. He is 15/1 with Sport Pesa and looks a decent option in this competitive field. You can get a £10 free bet to use on this market.
