Arsenal vs Manchester United predictions and betting tips for Sunday afternoon’s crucial Premier League six pointer. A single point separates these two as we approach the final quarter of the season, with the winner of this one leaving the quest for Champions League qualification very much in their own hands.
It’s hard to believe this fixture was once the biggest in English football during an era in which the Premier League title usually went to one or the other. In recent years, neither side has really mounted a serious title challenge including last season – where second placed United still finished a staggering 19 points off local rivals Manchester City. Sunday’s match could go a long way towards deciding how successful a campaign the teams involved might have and qualifying for the Champions League will be a priority for both.
Despite there generally being less riding on these games of late – from a silverware perspective at least – neutrals have certainly not been deprived of the quality and drama for which these contests are renowned. The last four occasions they’ve locked horns have seen both teams score and that’s a theme that football fans around the country will hope can continue. I like the look of both finding the net and over 2.5 goals being notched during the game and that’s rated as an evens chance.
There’s been improvement in virtually every department since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrived at Old Trafford but if you had to select one player whose performances have noticeably picked up, I’d be surprised if most didn’t plump for Paul Pogba. The World Cup winner has been on fire in recent weeks and arguably been the catalyst for the remarkable upturn in results that have United very much on the brink of securing top level European football again next season. Pogba has already eclipsed his best season in a United shirt from a goal scoring perspective and has been hammering them in with unerring consistency since the start of 2019.
Can the Frenchman deliver a hammer blow to Arsenal this weekend? Well, at 5/2 to register anytime, I’d certainly be prepared to take my chances and find out.
This fixture hasn’t been looked upon very fondly from an Arsenal fan’s perspective recently, with The Gunners winning just one of their last seven encounters against United. The two served up an entertaining 2-2 draw in the Premier League in December before the Londoners were knocked out of the FA Cup on their own ground a month later.
Arsenal will be reeling from a last-minute penalty miss against Spurs at the weekend and the two points dropped could prove even more significant by the end of the season should they lose to United here. It does however seem difficult to overtly fancy Unai Emery’s side based on the fact that their sizzling form prior to the festive period appears to have fizzled out somewhat. I can see United getting the better of Arsenal again here, as they generally have done over the past decade, with a 2-1 away victory jumping off the page. That’s an 11/1 poke.
