Southampton vs Cardiff City Predictions and Betting Tips: Premier League Preview

Southampton betting tips

Southampton vs Cardiff City predictions, betting tips and match preview for this weekend’s potential Premier League relegation six pointer. Just two points separate the pair ahead of Saturday’s clash and we take a closer look at how this one could pan out.

It was fitting that Cardiff recorded a much-needed victory against Bournemouth last weekend – on the day the club and supporters chose to poignantly memorialise Emiliano Sala. Neil Warnock admitted that he considered retirement following a horrendously difficult week for all involved at the club but quietly most of the football world will admit they were happy to see The Bluebirds triumph following such tragic adversity.

Southampton vs Cardiff City Preview

The real question is, then, can Cardiff maintain that momentum in their quest to avoid relegation? A trip to Southampton currently looks a much tougher proposition than it did before Christmas and the Saints are unbeaten in their last four Premier League matches.

Scoring goals has been Cardiff’s biggest problem this season but there were signs last weekend that they have the potential to trouble defences more regularly going forward. Neutrals will be hoping that the visitors can ride the wave of emotion and pull off another victory here, although it won’t be easy. But it must be remembered that although Southampton are in reasonable form, they’re towards the bottom of the table for good reason.

I look at the 5/4 available on Cardiff avoiding defeat with bewilderment following last weekend, so the double chance market is where my main betting interest lies.

Southampton vs Cardiff City Predictions

Bobby Reid will be hoping that last weekend proves to be a turning point in his Cardiff career, with the ex-Bristol City forward looking to build on the match-winning brace he nabbed against Bournemouth. The 26-year-old coolly slotted a penalty home before capitalising on some dreadful defending, but his all-round play was impressive enough to suggest that there might be more to come.

The £10million man is a massive 4/1 shot to score anytime with Paddy Power here, with most firms actually priced up far shorter. Capitalise on the value while it’s still up for grabs!

Many will disagree but I really can see Cardiff making it back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time this season, which could have huge implications for the league standings come May. A win for the away side would see them leapfrog Southampton in the table and elevate them to safety – for the time being, anyway.

I’ve gone a bit off piste here in search for a little more value and have selected a correct score combination reflective of how I see this one going. Cardiff could have won by more last weekend and if they put in a similar performance here, you’d like to think they will score at least once. Southampton, meanwhile, will go into this one confident of another win and pulling further clear of the beleaguered pack. I’m undeterred, though, and will be backing Cardiff to win by either a 2-0 or 2-1 margin. That’s a 9/2 poke with Coral.
